Seeing the retail in the US has gone up to $849.00 and Amazon.com will not ship their warehouse open box/used deals to us in Canada, I guess that's about the best one can currently do so I would probably go it.
Out of curiosity I 'm almost tempted to pickup the HD650s  on Canuck" src="http://files.head-fi.org/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif" style="width:16px;">

You should sell the poor fellow your HD700 and join us in HD800 land. tongue.gif If you haven't noticed, it's pretty dead here since you shipped away your headphones for repair. I shouldn't have to spell out what happened since. And no, everyone's HD700s did not all break and need to be sent away for repairs. wink.gif

You should try it out and see which one you like. Most people like the HD800 more, but it's all subjective. A lot of the guys gave the HD800 a try with the $1200 Razordog sale, and have not looked back. I haven't bugged @roguegeek recently on this, but I'm sure he's in the process of selling his HD700 to fund the Questyle. :p (Actually get the Questyle first and see how it sounds with HD700). I actually wouldn't recommend the HD800 to the other guy because he likes his bass and the HD800 takes more consideration on the amp, and not everyone wants to get into spending more on amps. But I recall you had a decent setup already that would do the HD800 justice.

When it does happen, it seems the biggest reason people like the HD700 over HD800 is for the signature where they find the HD800 too bright or sterile. Imo this is due to poor amp pairing. However, I do agree the HD700 has a different sound signature than the HD800. Actually, I recently got the AKG K812, and while I haven't heard the HD700 in a while, I find the K812 to sound similar in signature to the HD700 from memory, but with better technicalities like details and imaging. Both are definitely bassier and more "fun" and lively than the HD800. Maybe that's something for anyone who really likes the HD700 signature, if I'm remembering things right.

Well I pulled the trigger on the HD 700s finally. They should be here within a couple weeks, and then I will let you guys know what I think!

Sondio! You're turning the HD 700 appreciation thread into the HD 800 seduction thread!

I know it’s just cosmetic and the phones sound great but all the same????

Ok, Sennheiser have ordered new replacement rings and will let me know when they are in and take care of shipping both ways.

They did apologize, as this was the first disassembly and a tricky one at that on the HD700s and hopefully a one off and not a recurring problem.

Not too worry, the HD700s accomplish exactly want I wanted…. the missing link between my HD580/600s and AKG701s which I was constantly swapping between depending if I needed (wanted) more bass (HD600), clarity, extension and sound stage (K701) etc, etc.

So far IMHO the HD700s combine and improve on the strengths of both those phones and then some. ;)

But if at some point I do add the 800s to my roster I'll join in on the HD800 thread.

I have been considering "upgrading" to LCD-2's. Can anyone that has listened to both compare them to the HD700's please?

I have also been considering the LCD-2's, but in addition to my HD700's, so I'd be interested in some comparisons as well.

I see that you own a pair of HE-500's as well. These are another pair of headphones that I've been considering. How do they compare to the 700's?

Another open box pair just showed up on Amazon for $530

I have both.  Don't get me wrong, I think the HD 700's are incredible Heaphones with their own sound signature.  If I could afford to keep both lcd2's and HD 700's I would, but I can't.

The lcd2's to me are at another level.  Its like a veil is lifted and there is even more detail.  The 700's to me have a larger soundstage but the detail of the lcd-2s is incredible.

I am using a wa7 amp and it drives both phones very well.

To me, after listening to the LCD-2, LCD-3, and LCD-X, the only one that I would "upgrade" to would be the LCD-X.  The X is like an improvement on all aspects of the HD700 (save the comfort, I don't think anything can beat the 700 in comfort).  To me, the LCD-2 and 3 sounded much more dark/warm then the HD700's, which I am not one who likes overly warm sound sig.

How do the HD700's compare to the HD800's? What am I missing out on?
