The only EQ that's possible is just crank the lower registers up. Then you muddy up midrange and muffle up the highs by doing so. But you'll also be listening to them in a new light! :D

Quote:NO! - I have the HD 800 and also the HD 650 and HD 600 (in the guise of the limited edition HD 580 Jubilee).
When I compared the HD 800, 700 and 650 I found that the 700 was a big step up from the 650, but was not a patch on the 800.
Having the 800 already, there was no point in getting the 700 as I already had something very much better.

I listened to the HD800 numerous times on few great amps but I have never been tempted to get a pair. I bought the HD700 after a short audition in a shop ;-)post #369 of 4842/15/13 at 3:00pm- ALSO

As many people have noted on this thread and elsewhere, a lot of this is subjective. Some people love the Sennheiser sound and appreciate the differences between each headphone. I spent a lot of time auditioning the 700 and 800 and like them both. At the price range of the 800, I might consider something else though, just for variety, but if I had the funds to spare, I would keep both the 700 and 800, they are different enough to my ears.
post #370 of 4842/15/13 at 3:32pmQuote:Yes subjectivity matters a lot, but the trick is that everyone are interested by the hd700, because it costs 1000$, and it's "sennheiser" .

I have the HD800s there not going anywhere. I'm trying to find out if there is much of a difference between the 800s and the 700s to own both?

I don't think it's worth it to own the same "house" sound if you already have the HD800s. The HD700s is a significant and noticeable departure from HD650s and it's probably accurate to say it's somewhere in between HD800's neutrality and HD650's lushness.
I had the HD800s for about a month and I'll likely get it in again just to confirm my bias towards the HD700s. I was not overwhelmed by the HD800s to go out and find a pair on the used market (because it's frankly not worth the retail price with other great options out there). When I grabbed the HD700s on a "hunch" after reading reviews, I was pleasantly surprised and rewarded with a sonic signature that suits my listening preferences. YMMV but I think if you love your HD800s, stick with that. There's no point to step down to the HD700s characteristics that may err away from neutral.

Quote:Then my only advise is to listen and decide for yourself and ignore what anyone else says.
The HD 700 certainly sound different from the HD 800 and are loved by quite a few recording engineers.
My own decision was that I had the HD 800 and found no benefit in having the HD 700 as well and sold the 700 on to a recording engineer (who loves them).
So listen for yourself and if you feel the difference is enough for you to have both then go for it - but it's a decision *you* need to make for yourself.
post #374 of 4842/16/13 at 6:53amQuote:I'll likely get it in again just to confirm my bias towards the HD700sI don't think the controversy is about if the hd700 would please, but if the sound signature suggested is worth the price.
I have no doubt that some people would hate the hd800, but most people would recognize they offer something you don't find on competition.
It has been suggested on this thread , that the hd700 offers some similarity with some lower priced grados.
Anyway there's two way to take it :
- you love the hd700, hence this has no price
- you might love better cheaper alternatives.

Absolutely no controversy intended. Sound preference is a highly subjective thing that no charts, graphs, measurements can really quantify. Some really well-measured phones I absolutely don't like (LCD-2s), some poorly measured phones I do like (SRH-1840s).
As far as Grados compared to HD700s, I didn't prefer the SR225i's that I had a while back but do love the HD650s "veiled" sound much better when I had those 2 at the same time. The SR225i's went out and the HD650s has stayed for the duration of my possession. The HD700s will also stay permanently as one of my favorite headphones, more so than the HD650s.
