Hey guys don't let tomscy's dislike of the colour get you down, his mind is acclimatized to the EX1000, FI-BA-SS, and four-driver custom IEM's. =)

Then again I was hoping this would sound better than the Final Audio heaven S / heaven IV etc.

It sounds like the 80's have better imaging than at least the Heaven A. Imaging kinda sucked on those but the soundstage was really wide. Some like myself may prefer a more intimate presentation. Others like that expansive soundstage.

I may sell my FXD80 as well. BUT I have been spoiled rotten by a very specific sound signature and flagship level full size headphone so my decision if I make it in no way is a bad reflection of this IEM because it very very nice. The fact is I just prefer a very specifically colored signature, enough so I prefer the SRH-1440 over Shure's actual flagship headphone.

I saw a chance to try out the Phonak PFE 122 for a good price (at least I think that's the model being sold by B&H) which I suspect will be closer to my signature. If so these will be on the sales forum in about a week or so....

I thought I liked coloured sound signaures until... yesterday... when I read at goldenears.net the Tesla T5p is the 5th flattest headphone out of 121 measured.

Anyway, signature via frequency response certainly isn't everything, which they attest to as well.

Hmm interesting...

I have a fellow head-Fi member who like me has been searching for an IEM alternative to my beloved SRH-1440. He sent me a PM about the Superlux 381f that intrigued me enough to order a pair

They arrived today and I just started to listen to them. Much more like what I want!! I have a feeling they won't isolate enough for me on the train but for their price they will likely be a new bedtime and office favorite. Cheap as heck looking in every possible way but man do they sound good!

The SRH-1440 doesn't look very good either to be honest, not to me at least.  Of course sound is more important, but I love my new ES10, finally a headphone I can use outside.

The 1440 at least doesn't look like a clamp on my head (940) LOL but I do wish the 1440 drivers resided in an 1840 frame! And yes, for me it's all about the sound :-). But the ES10 does look pretty amazing.

These 381f are ugly poor looking little waifs but they are winning me with their dulcet tones :-).

Someone just put T5p drivers in a T1 lol.  Indeed the SRH-1840 is the winner in looks, I like how it looks, but your impressions make me think I'd prefer the SRH-1440, which I dislike in looks, and I'm not very interested in full-size headphones anyway. =p

These headphones just sing with Afro-Cuban music....the sounds of excellent trumpet along with percussion...just fabulous...

Buena vista social club or Orishas, just to name a few artists!

Yes, back when I was so full of hope and enthusiasm for them that I decided to be a show model for JVC in Hong Kong.

I won't dispute that others might enjoy the FXD80 more than I do. It's very, very capable on a technical basis, but it doesn't present a complete enough of a musical picture for me to appreciate them.

Yep, they are hideous and terribly-built, but as I mentioned to you, they're one of my all-time favorite earphones. I wrote a lengthy review on them back when I was still green and inexperienced, but my opinion of them hasn't changed. They are amazing performers in the <$25 category. IMHO, the Brainwavz Beta is a step behind them in performance, and despite being better built outwardly, they too have their own QC problems. That's why I've been hunting for the Phiaton PS210.

When I saw them I immediately thought of the betas but I agree the 381f sound better. The beta has a similar sound stage though. Neither are very well built. The PS210 would definitely better built. Anyway I will stop derailing this thread with all my talk about other headphones and IEM's.

Did you ever try the CKM500 or the RE262? And if no, why not?
