Minor Rattling Sound In New Headphones - Troubleshoot Or Send Them Back

I know most people will advise to send them back. However, I was just thinking if anyone else might have a different idea.

 

I am having a slight issue with my new pair of headphones, a slight ratting sound on the left earcup when listening to music at moderate to high volume levels. It doesn't occur many times though it can be disconcerting to have the rattling sound come up once in a while considering the headphones are less than 2 weeks old.

 

I have sent the manufacturer an email asking them whether warranty will be void if the user attempts to open up the earcup to troubleshoot the problem himself. Having said that, I would still have a problem even if the warranty isn't affected as I have no idea where to locate the screws on the earpiece.

 

Is this rattling sound a common thing that is easily rectified?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Do you mean it sounds like something is rolling around in there, or is it more like a buzzing?

 

If it's a buzzing, it could be a hair on the driver. It's kind of surprising how much noise a single hair can make...

It's a buzzing sound, not exactly a rolling sound. The possible causes include loose hair inside the earcup and a loose wire hitting against the metal or something. Even if I managed to open up the earcup, I have no idea how to troubleshoot the problem, that if I can find a hair or two in it.

The warranty tends to be void when you attempt to fix it yourself on nearly all products, so it is ALWAYS recommended to send them back if they don't work. Sending them back is a guaranteed fix, self repair not so much.

Yeah, that is what I thought too with most things. Thanks for the advice.
