For Sale:
FS: Beyerdynamic DT880 600 Ohm w/ Blue Dragon

Will Ship To: Anywhere

UPDATE: Also willing to trade for a Denon D5000 or D2000 w/ wood cup mod +money.

I am selling my Beyerdynamic DT880 600 Ohm "Audiophile" headphones, recabled by Moon-Audio with 10 feet of their "Blue Dragon" cable. The condition of these headphones should be equivalent to an Audiogon "8." New price is $554.

Modifications:

Installed by Moon-Audio 10 foot "Blue Dragon" cable

Furutech FP-704 1/4" Plug

Beyerdynamic "Pro" Headband Pad

Also Included:

Original Headband Pad (so you can put the original back if you want)

All of the original accessories

Not Included in the posted price:

Stand

Multimeter

Bananas

JMoney Earpads

They were used for just a few months, and have been burned in with 200 hours of pink noise. Non-Smoking household. Original owner, and all that stuff.

The only flaw I can see is one scratch on the nameplate on the right earcup. It looks simply like a short (1/2") pencil mark. It arrived with the scratch when I originally received it (new), so perhaps a screwdriver slipped when the new cable was being built.

Feel free to ask any questions. I have perfect eBay feedback under the same name, if you'd like to check.

Price is $400, via PayPal, FedExed to you in the ConUS. Buyer pays the 3% PayPal fees, if you do not wish for it to be sent as a gift. I'd also be willing to send to non-ConUS locations, but naturally there would be extra costs involved for shipping.

Thanks for looking!

-Michael

P.S. If anyone wants, I'm also selling the JMoney lambskin earpads. $45, shipped. Currently they sell for $79 new, and they are in like-new condition, not used much at all.   Sold!

Hi Michael,

How much of a difference can you hear with the new cables? What frequencies do you hear the most difference? What amp do you use with your 880's?

Thanx kindly, Yvette

Hello!

As you know, the DT880's, especially the 600 Ohm versions, are known for their ability to draw out enormous amounts of detail from the music, as well as having a beautiful "sparkling" treble. Their main weakness is that the lower frequencies are recessed, which can lead to a rather "dry" sound.

The recabling was done counter that recessed-bass issue by restoring some of the lost low-frequency signal, which it does quite well. Recabled DT880's are more balanced, that is, giving all frequencies equal opportunity to shine (sounding "fuller.")

The stock cable is also a bit flimsy and comes with a mini-TRS termination, necessitating a 1/4" adapter (which results in more lost signal and detail). Since I recabled it with a proper 1/4" termination, this has also solved the latter issue.

I ended up avoiding the "Black Dragon" from Moon-Audio because it is more bulky and heavier, and the "Silver Dragon" just cost a bit to much.

I used these headphones with a Meier-Audio Corda Opera. Jan Meier, its designer, was a big fan of Beyerdynamics and designed this amplifier accordingly. I was a fan of the amp, and have since tinkered and done some upgrades to mine. Many people on this site seem to recommend Woo Audio OTL Tube amps with the DT880's. The major concern here is that you need an amplifier that has enough voltage to drive something with 600 Ohms of resistance, so, in general, battery powered ones are off the list.

Any other questions?

-Michael
