I definitely want one of those D7100s!!
Nooo they don't look as good as their previous run of headphones but still, I would like to hear them...
I honestly thought it was a joke. Denon becoming hip and cool? Who would have thought? :D
The Sennheiser HD 800 was met with similar opinions (regarding its looks) back when it first launched in 2009 (and a year before that, when photos of a prototype leaked). Over the years, the HD 800's performance earned it a place in high-end, and its looks came along for the ride, growing on many.
Again, I haven't heard a tuned version of the Music Maniac models, but do very much like the current AH-D7000. If they can improve on the performance of that headphone (which, like everyone else, I still have yet to hear), then I think its looks will likely come along for the ride, too. Again, I also like that I'd have a D7000-class headphone I could feel comfortable stuffing into a too-stuffed backpack, messenger bag or duffel.
In person, these don't look like Beats or Soul to me at all--they have their own aesthetic, which is most easily appreciated in person--they're pretty huge too. I don't know that these images will do anything to make them any more appealing to those who don't like what they've seen so far, but in Post #2 of this thread I uploaded several photos I took while I was at Denon's U.S. offices.
I'll also add more info about the rest of Denon's new lines.
Now it only remains to be seen BeyerDynamic doing the same...
I laughed pretty hard myself even at my own post. xD Nothing against the new Beyer custom series though, in fact I'm interested in the adjustable venting to change sound signature but yea I couldn't resist posting it. ^^
Denon if you're following this thread. Three things:
1. Isolation is key. Either make them open back or truly closed with a nice seal/isolation for use in noisy public areas, none of this half and half stuff from previous generation.
2. For the final voicing, make sure you bring the mids up front a lot more, so voices don't sound like they're behind everything. A nice thick lush mid section would be very yummy.
3. Can we please get a semi-hard case to carry this around instead of just a pouch? Just saying. The signature pros come with a nice case, check that out.
That's not so much of a radical "lets kill 3 well known models with something new" but more like "lets make a new model with more customisations! :D".
I love my D7000 and don't see myself parting with it anytime soon... but I'll admit to being curious about the new flagship. It looks MUCH better than the photos that circulated in that April Fools' thread (it wasn't even the top-end can in the photos) and still retails at least a bit of the previous design ethos. I may just be an early adopter of this one.
As far as criticizing Denon for discontinuing the old line and turning to "Beats look-a-likes"... I'm not jumping on that train yet. IMO, Denon has at least tried to produce innovative audiophile-grade products in recent years, and even if their efforts haven't been overwhelmingly successful (I'm looking at you, anniversary turntable), at least they're trying something different.
...these are some of the ugliest headphones I've ever seen... It wouldn't matter much if these were meant to be used at home, but from the looks of it Denon wants them to be used as portables.
Discontinuing the Dx000 line for these things? What were they thinking?
Yea yea I know, the funny thing here is how BeyerDynamic isn't quite known for "fashion"-thing, I mean german and fashion doesn't mix well. It has to be more strict, professional etc, the last manufacturer you'd expect to offer "customizable" shields or any kinds of hippy color options etc. ^^
Seriously, custom colors/designs with Beyer cans are like making your Mini look like a Delorean from BTTF.
What a lousy analogy.. but my brain kinda stopped working for awhile.
