Is the AKG K550 are an improvement over the AKG K240 MK2?

I love the signature sound of the AKG K240, and if possible improve them without losing their signature sound would be excellent.

Everything I heard about the K550 say YES, the K550 is an over all improvement over the K240s

and the AKG K550 are only $300.

They need an amplifier?

I will be able to tell you exactly in a week.

Getting my mom the K550, I have the K242.

I think soundstage would be the weakness of the K550.

And IMHO the K242 is extremely trasparent ampwise, in the sense that it shows the SS of the amp above its own.

EDIT: k242 really do need an amp, really, its just tolerable without one. The K550 are supposed to be better, about Denon level, so it helps but is not needed
