I am using the MT832 (same as 831, just has some Japanese text support for titling) for about a year and a half. I am very happy with it, the sound quality is excellent (using Sony MDR-888LP), warm and rich sound, I record a lot of CDs and MP3 playlists of my computer and for some reason everything sounds better when played on the Sharp. Overall the music has that full and warm "analogue" sound to it, very enjoyable and not fatiguing at all. The bass has 4 settings (0, 1, 2 and 3), and gives better bass than the Sony MD's (I've auditioned a lot of various models before buying the Sharp).
Build quality is excellent as well, the unit has a metal body, very solid, I haven't had any problems with it yet. The remote is handy and well designed (although the Sony remote is better thought of IMHO). I usually carry the unit in a pouch designed to carry police handcuffs, may sound weird but it fits the 832 perfectly and is made of heavy duty nylon type material.
I am sure you will not be disappointed with this model, I know I wasn't. Hope this helps.
