On hold pending confirmation my ant colony is willing to relocate to sridhar3's SR-009.

 

 

 

FS - Nature Lover's Stax 009 headphones

 

It's hard to part with these but I'm one of those few crazy people who gets "freaked" out when lovable critters crawl around in my ear canal.  These Stax are lightly used and were kept fastidiously in their plastic cover the whole time.  These headphones are actually a multipurpose device, much like a Swiss army knife.  On the one hand they are a premium pair of headphones, on the other a home to some industrious little buggers who just won't quit.  Have you ever heard Aesop's fable about the ant and the grasshopper?  The ants know what is truly valuable - a pair of Stax 009 headphones.  Comes with all original accessories and an extra bottle of jam to keep the ants fed and content.  (The last thing you want is a society of ants rebellious from malnutrition in your Stax.)

 

Please understand that these 009's are a one-in-a-kind pair.  No modder or tweaker could replicate the unique ecological set of circumstances that led to these Stax being chosen among all other Stax as a hub of commerce and social networking among another species.  As such, I truly can't settle for any less than $6,000 to pry them from my hands.  This pair is for serious collector's intent on the most exclusive and unique headphones available.  If you have to ask if you're a serious collector you probably aren't, because if you were you would have already PM'ed me.

 

It is truly hard to let these go, but I do hope that their future users can appreciate them as much as I have.

 

Oh, and they're fire ants by the way. On the contrary, they are ghost ants.

I am interested in your listing but am a little concerned about the welfare of the ants - are you using organic jam? Do you give them plenty of sunlight?  What type of music do you play them?  If the music is angry and mutinous I'm not sure that I'd be interested - I'm not keen on cleaning up other people's messes.

 

Also, one other thing that I'm not sure if you can accommodate - I notice you mention the ants used are ghost ants.  These ants are pretty commonplace - as far as "unique" items go, a Stax infested with ghost ants is much less exclusive than one infested with, say Dracula ants.  I don't know if you are able to obtain these, but if you are I would be interested - I understand if you would need to charge a couple thousand extra for the service.

 

Lastly, I will be running these off a cMoy connected to an SRD-7.   Will that drive these well?  If anyone knows a more expensive amp possibility (limited run preferred) please let me know.

Ants hmmmmm.....

Popular trend if you can afford it and are willing to put forth the time to maintain such unique equipment. I must say im very tempted, but never having owned electrostats i doubt ill have the ability to drive them, couldnt even drive my magnets. I have a serious lack of jam too.

any cable upgrades? also will there be pictures avalable?

Apologies for the belated responses, but I wanted to take some time and research the matters requested.

To the question about Dracula ants - since they can anecdotally be found outside of the US, I would need to find out the logistics of importing them. On top of this, I'm waiting to hear back regarding any problem mixing species of ants inside the phones. I'll get back to you on the upgrade price.

Regarding cmoy, I have no idea. Preliminary reading suggests they might not synergize well with an ant colony.

The ants have not been cryo treated; PETA, though technically concerning themselves with animals and not insects, have found it fit, in a desperate need to increase their visibility by mooching off my thread, to send round-the-clock representatives to ensure their safe and humane handling. The person on duty at this time informed me that freezing the unit is a definite no-no, as their bodies are rather fragile.

No cable upgrades are available, as the stock one is permanently connected to the pods.

I hope this helps. I have an inquiry from an anteater owner, but I don't think he's willing to spend this much on dinner for his pup.

Yes, but they have acquired a taste for the SR-009; I cannot guarantee they would want to settle in any other types of phones. In other words, I would be unable to issue a refund if the ants didn't nest in yours.

The ant colony can be yours for $601, shipping and PayPal included.

I suggest local pickup around end of June.

Local pickup sounds good.  I'll bring my SR-009 with me, so hopefully we can facilitate a painless migration from your pair to mine.  I hope they enjoy living in my pair as much as they currently enjoy yours.
