what did you fix exactly?

Where the wire met the driver housing, the glue became lose, and the cable was rotating 360 degrees and was loose near the housing.  A little UV adhesive and about 40 seconds of UV light and boom. Problem solved.

My suggestion: keep the UM3X. It's one of those IEMs that you tend to appreciate most after you sell it biggrin.gif I'm on my second pair, and there's no way it's leaving my inventory again.

I bought it 3 X and still went back to W3.  I love UM3X but wish it had crispier treble and a bit more open sound.  But it kills anything under $1,000 for instrument separation and overall refinement.

I too would prefer if the um3x had crispier, more prominent treble.

Silicon tips, and the iPod's treble boost EQ setting do the trick for me

Ipod Classic with "treble boost" EQ setting is what I use and it helps but I also use that same setting with W3 and it sounds even better with W3 to my ears.  The bass stays in check and the treble extension is fantastic...very crispy.

Haha you must love extremely bright treble then. Sounds like the W3 is a good match for you. I found the W3 far too bright, even without the treble boost.

I felt similar about the um3x but after much time and then not having them in use for a while, I really missed them.  Now that I got them back I am glad although i would love to try the w4.  I do like the um3x more than the w3

w4 is just the distant or laid back version of the um3x with a little bit of more refinement
