For me the lcd3 are for extended listening after a short while they seem to open up in detail.
It's just in my head I am not saying they change just my ears. The he6 and hd800 are very close to me as well is the stax 009 , great in detail and I can listen extended but I prefere the other in the office like back ground music

This was pretty much what I'm speaking of.  However, I prefer the HD800s for all classical music then the HE-6.  The LCD-3s are great for Jazz.  IMO..

For Classical music:

Not only are they darker - but the soundstage is smaller on all fronts and this gives you a more closed in feeling - at least it does to me.  The imaging is not as good as the HD800s and HE-6 either.  Also the treble is a tab bit shelved compared to the other two.

Again, for Classical music these are draw backs - IMO

I think we all hear very different , but when you find someone who appears to hear what you do it does for the most part stay in sink. Like prepo I mostly agree with what you say. There are many who feel the hd800 is too bright but not me. Even if I eq the LCD3 it does not sound like the hd800 . Our dacs and amps also effect how it sounds very much as well.

Well one things for sure.

He-6 hd 800 and lcd-3 are all more coherent and natural sounding than abyss.

But when the big kettledrums chime in, you really get to enjoy the bass og the Audeze

I've yet to find anything competitive with the HD800 for classical pieces, except the Stax SR007 for small ensemble piano driven pieces. While I feel the SR007 gets the piano tonality best, there is just something about the HD800 and their great coherency with large orchestras. Just seems a very natural fit and one experiences the HD800 in all their refined glory. While, admittedly, I don't own an LCD 3, the LCD - 2 is really just all wrong for the genre. It's a little too laid back, a little dry in the midrange and most obviously closed in comparatively to the HD800 and HE6. The HE6 doesn't hit that sweetspot for classical either for me. I prefer them for vocals, acoustics, and well-recorded pop, folk and some bluegrass. The fantastic heft and weight are a little detracting and don't play well with busy classical passages. These are purely subjective impressions and we all obviously have our own ideas of how a certain genre should sound.

I am in a dilemma as well between He-6 and LCD-3. I currently own a 3-ch Beta 22 and I read in the thread which talks about which amps can drive He-6 well, my amp is listed as one of those that can drive the HE-6 pretty well (although I heard contradicting opinions). But in terms of synergy, which of the two phones will suit better? If there is anyone who has tried both phones on a 3-ch beta 22 any opinion would be greatly appreciated. By the way, I have never listened to either of the two phones in my life =P and it seems that it is not easy for me to get to demo them where I am.

Strap the HE-6 on to one of these and I would think you could be done with that rig. It's just a lot of jack for one headphone. If you had some speakers to use it with though...........

Go with the LCD-3.

So, would you say my 3-Ch beta 22 would bring more out of LCD-3 than with the HE-6?
