To me, it's the driver's ability to keep up with sharp transients.

Yeah, definitely.

Audeze are definitely not treble heavy headphones, like the HD700 that I have, but with proper equipment it can all balance out.

Also I want to mention - HD800 is not king.

Hifiman have a place, and I'd like to hear them, don't know where I can find them in israel.

I think I'm gonna try to get a demo with Stax to see how they compare with the LCD-3's at some point. I doubt they are as good as you people are making out of it. The fact that they are so amazingly expensive doesn't mean they are as good as that expense.

Uhm, a few more days to demo the LCD-3 and a few more to buy them.

No question the LCD-3 are a really good high quality headphone.  No second guessing that.  However, I sold my LCD-3 and my HD800 and decided to keep the HE-6s..  In my book, at this time the HE-6 is KING.  I still want to hear the Abyss in my rig..

Wow looks like you already have all the greats except for the Stax 009. Still for general all around listening to any and all genres (IMHO) the LCD3s are pretty hard to beat. If I was to try another non-electrostat would likely be the Fostex TH-900. But for now perfectly happy getting by with my LCD3s. It's tough but someone has to do it...

I would consider the HE-6 as the one hard to beat for "ALL" genres.  The LCD-3 are a no go for classical..  IMO..  The HE-6 are known to be the Genre masters.

I agree with DavidMahler when he said this:

"GENRE MASTER: Throw any genre at the HE-6, from rock to reggae, country to classical, hard bop to hip hop; the HE-6 excels."

The LCD-3 are absolutly great for Jazz..

The HE-6 are hard to drive well and when done properly, are very, very satisfying to listen with.

yeah thats the only thing i'm missing, and i'm not sure i want it or not. i think i'm perfectly happy now with what i got. only thing is i might get a grado rs1i later this year. (or maybe get to hear a PS1000 on a WA22 see if that fixes the terrible brightness it has).

I don't agree that Lcd-3 cannot do classical. I think it is great with classical, but the amp shouldn't be too dark. I think the HE-6 is great too. Both are great. HE-6 is brighter, LCD-3 is darker. Pick you poison.

I agree to an extent.  The LCD3 is my favorite for chamber music and classical solo's, but large orchestral pieces I prefer HD800.  Just a sound stage thing....
