How can I be of the opinion it only sounds good with 1 headphone...never ever even hearing it.

I've gotten used to people speaking passionately about gear they've only read about on HF. popcorn.gif

How did the DS sound with other headphones?  I thought I read people say it sounded good with other headphones, too, but I could be misremembering.

Yea, I guess it's an annoying fact on HF.

I didn't mean to make it sound like the DS sounded bad or even meh with any other headphones. The HD800 sounded really good off the DS, best I've heard off a SS amp.

Other than that the LCD-2 while good, weren't moving at all. I preferred the Lyr with LCD-2 to DS. T1's were what I enjoyed the most..

they were very fun and seemed to just pair really well synergy wise. I also heard the HE-500 drove by DS, but the HE-6 spoiled that quickly.

I have to say IMO, the only headphone/amp pairing I've heard better than HE-6 and DS was BHSE and 009. And the 009 crushed it in every genre, except for my preferred taste.

Which was metal, hardcore. Just anything fast and heavy didn't sound very resolving with the 009.

I have still yet to hear a EC amp so I'm not completely saying the DS is the best out there even for HE-6. Just so far IME.

Paradoxper, im not saying you're wrong or anything, but what you wrote just goes to show you how differently everyone hears stuff. Cuase i couldnt stand the HE-6s out of the DS, but i loved it running off the speaker taps of a high end stereo amplifier.

Different stroked for different folks they say

Has anyone ever heard the HE-6 with a Dynahi or Balanced Dynahi (Dynamite)?

Chase, which amp was that?  it's always nice to hear about synergistic combos.

It was a B24, which is an AMB design that was built by Compuryan here in Dayton.

and yes its a monster of an amp, being somewhere between 1500-2000 just in parts. completely balanced/differential/complimentary design.

That's a lot of parts for an amp. My tube amp only has 281 parts (from the parts list from its owner's manual).

Yeirnie, the '1500-2000' figure refers to the cost, in us$, of the parts, not the # of internal parts.

I was questioning the same thing. But 1500-2000 parts for an amp is quite absurd.

So after reading through well over half (the second half) of the HE-6 thread, I remembered something from my listening with the HE-6 comparing the B24 and the Dark Star. The pair of HE-6s that i listened to on the Dark Star I'm pretty sure were stock, whereas the pair of HE-6s that i listened to the B24 with, were hardwired. So I'm wondering if maybe getting rid of the SMC connector in the headphone is maybe what caused the major differences that i heard between the two amps, and that it wasn't the amps at all. I don't want to say either way though, as I couldn't be sure till I had another chance like that to compare them.
