First of all, I've been going back and forth with him via email.

Secondly, the reason I've let his latest profile continue for now is because at least he's communicating (and saying he's sending back things, and hopefully money where necessary).  I did tag his profile clearly with his other aliases, in the custom user title field.

If you're suggesting we don't care, you couldn't be more wrong.

I don't think there is any sarcasm involved with what jrkong says.  Everybody wants him to be here so they can stay in contact with him.

Exactly, I realize now my wording was quite questionable because of how it was worded but I wanted to say.

Well since I am a Computer Enginener and work for the Gov I can tell you this if Head-fi had things set up right they would have a log of his IP then trace it... Then even if he does have a VPN and you can show fraud the VPN company has to notify the user.... And that would scare the schiiit out of him number one then that IP could be traced to his house with a simple supoena to the local police so Jude is basically how does one say it nicely ummm "not doing a good job"

How did you change your name?

I asked an admin nicely if he could do it and he helped me out.

Head-Fi does know IPs (that's how they can IP-ban.)  But his point was they would trace it to whatever VPN he was using, show documentation of the fraud associated with the IP and get the VPN (who have the real IP) to cooperate with legal action.  (I'm not a computer engineer so that's my rudimentary understanding of it.)

MrScary - But if he was using something like Tor/Vidalia, (where it's something different and random every time through an international user network) then would there be any recourse for HF?  (I might be misunderstanding the whole thing, please enlighten me if my data is incomplete.)

the most they could do is know that he was using tor, but they would never know who it is or where the ip really came from

Atta boy Jude, good to see you're on top of things and handling things on a personal level.

I've just read this thread, and although I've never traded, I can imagine how agonizing it must be to be sending this scammer your hard-earned goods just to get laughed in the face. Talk about a double insult.

Rihards, if you have any decency left, you will return the goods to their rightful owners without any hassle, delay and complications.

This doesn't help even if you spoof the VPN into thinking that you are part of the network, nor somehow revealing the actual IP that resides within the user's NIC connected to it. What if he was at a local internet cafe, where hundreds of anonymous user's use computer's there for various internet activities? Doesn't help does it. rolleyes.gif (if his actually dumb enough to be actually using a device from his home via his local ISP, then yes it's traceable).
