I guess the carrying box could be a weak-point if you aren't careful with the IEMs. I did use the carrying case quite a bit while I had the IEMs and was sure to carefully put the IEMs in the case and not put strain on the connectors. If anything I actually liked the carrying case compared to the ones that came with my other IEMs (besides that one flaw).

As far as I know, there's only one way to store the K3003s in the K3003 case, and that will always put a strain on one of the cables. I don't see it as being a case of being careful or not when storing them, but an obvious design flaw of what is otherwise a very nice-looking and well-crafted leather case, with a fairly interesting design.

When I would put them in the case I would leave some slack for the connectors and not pull them in tight.

So I found a second pair of Meelec trips yesterday and have been using them exclusively. Coherency Schmoeherency. The phones rock. I would easily choose them over the mg6pro, worrisome cable and useless case included.- music_4321

^ Does that mean the MG6Pros have an even more "worrisome cable and useless case"? ;)
"The phones rock" -- could you elaborate a bit? "The phones rock" is not enough for me to add a link to the first post on this thread. Now, if you'd said "the phones really rock" or "the phones really suck", that might have qualified for a link… ie come on, Mr SS, you can do much better than that! And, "Coherency Schmoeherency", is that a Van Halen song?
Joking aside, I look forward to more in-depth impressions. Perhaps, eventually, a brief comparison to your Merlins? (Don't feel forced to say which you prefer). I'm sure several people would appreciate such comparison. Or, if you decide to post those impressions in your Merlin review thread, do post a link here.

These phones really rock!
I can already delclare them either the best universals I've heard or perhaps tied with the ex1000 (I no longer have those and would really need to a/b them).
The only thing the mg6pro does better is soundstage depth. Otherwise the k3003 is a hell of a lot more neutral. Has excellent brassy treble that doesn't need EQ; slightly forward and very clear mids, compared to the mg6pro's recessed and harsh mids. Even the bass is better b/c it's not excessively boosted.
If only the stock tips worked this well for me. The Meelec trips itch after a while. The trips offer me smoother treble response without resonance from too short a fit, as well as extend the soundstage left to right. The quality and comfort of the stock tips are very good, just too bad they don't offer any double or trips in those.
Anyway that's enough for now. I'll summarize everything more comprehensively at the end of the week and maybe add some um3x and Merlin comparisons.

Hey I don't find them to be a bad IEM at all to be honest besides my qualms with the cable. The Coherency issue for me is give or take. I still debated on getting them even with it as its not that bad to turn me off from the purchase. Not to mention my lack of tips, things could change. But with the new Custom Hyrbid IEM I have, that has put a complete stop on that purchase and I don't regret it one bit. Regardless the AKG3003 does deserve credit were credit is due, and it does have some amazing sound.
The showstopper is below :)

Quote:So reassuring to know that you'd choose them over the sadly dissappointing and tragically flawed mg6pros.

I know you're not allowed to disclose further details without written permission from the UNSC, but may I still ask whether this is a demo version of what's going to retail as a full custom, or will there be a universal version of these for sale?

The unit I have is a demo unit in universal form. You can opt for a universal fit IEM if you want though (they will most likely accommodate for this as I know you love universals James). Basically the same unit will be offered as a Custom IEM with different color options and face-plates. I have more photos of the various face plate options (some are only available on a very limited basis). I'll post those once I have gotten the ok.- music_4321

Quote:I believe those customs demos were given/passed on to lee730 by fellow HF'er spkrs01 who, I believe, lives in Hong Kong. spkrs01 owns several custom sets and is heavily into aftermarket cables.
I believe the demos lee730 has were made by a local person in Hong Kong, and they are full-on customs made universal, ie demos, much like what Unique Melody do with their customs so that people can audition them. Whether those demos lee730 has will become universals proper like the K3003 or W4 is a different matter, and I very much doubt it. I suggest you go straight to the source, or as close to the source as you can get, ie send a PM to spkrs01.

It looks like the tour is starting to spur a reasonable conversation about the merits of K3003. To the guys that have taken part of the tour thus far, thanks for your input; this thread is starting to get interesting. I guess I'll have to start planing leg two of the tour soon.post #88 of 2117/30/12 at 12:33am- lee730

What about your take on them bizkit? I know you had posted on another thread before. Do you think you could also give your take on them here as well? Again, thank you for the opportunity to demo your unit. It was an invaluable experience for me :).- music_4321
