I bought almost all the gear you see in my channel. The ones I get from manufactures I will state clearly in the video. I get to keep the review units for 30 - 60 days and then I send back. I love this hobby and having so many headphones to play with is great because there is no perfect headphones.

Almost all the headphones I own I bought before having a chance to see or listen to them. It's buying blind. I wish I could check them out before buying but there isn't any headphones dealers in my area.

On the unboxing videos I just don't watch them I perfer the reviews.

Often times, unboxing and quick look, sometimes first impressions videos are followed by reviews of the item. The unboxing video is an aperitif to it.

Notice that he already knows everything about the product. In my book you should know to a certain degree about the stuff you buy, unless it's a surprise gift from another person.

 

Kind of boring for us, and it's far from his best video (it's one of his slower-going one). Still, Lou got better with time and with his channel, this is one video I wanted to watch, just so I can not-buy the product in it.

 

 

He even put a video of him buying the game at the midnight launch... that's one of the things I like about the recent video-internet, you don't need to be there anymore to see it. Pinnacle of laziness.

I agree with Beagle.  Who decides whether they are going to buy a pair of headphones based on what comes in the box?  WTF has happened to head-fi?  We used to have reviews about SOUND now we have unboxing videos all about the bloody packaging?  If an unboxing video has any effect on your buying decision you're buying headphones for all the wrong reasons.

 

Unboxing videos are porn for consumer whores.  

 

They aren't about headphones at all.  It's just about feeding people's addiction to buying stuff (consumerism).  People get a little high when they buy things.  They have delusions, some subtle and some more gross, about how that thing is going to change their lives and bring them happiness.  But they can't afford to buy enough to fill the void, so watching unboxing videos triggers a similar emotional response and gets them through until their next real fix when they can buy something themselves and....omg...open a real box...in real life!!! 

 

I throw up a little bit everytime I see one posted on head-fi.

I agree with rhythmdevils, he, or she is totally right. But I don't know of anyone who never watched pornography, smoked anything, eaten/drunk with exaggeration, or never isolated himself from the rest of the world with headphones and music. Unboxing videos, as long as you don't get addicted and it doesn't make you want to purchase things you don't need compulsively, I can't see much evil in them.

A Head-Fier buys Headphones, They're proud of them so they want to share their enthusiasm. Don't watch if you think it's silly, but definitely don't rain on their parade. They made a video so it probably means a lot to them.

If they want to share their enthusiasm, they should share pictures of the headphones, or better yet, share impressions about the sound of the headphones.  That's the point of a headphone.
