Airbrush noob needs advice

Thread Starter

I'm currently trying to get into airbrushing but I have a question to ask.

I have an industrial type air compressor but I don't know if I can use this with an airbrush.

Maybe it's too powerful ?

I'm going to be using an airbrush like the Iwata Eclipse type or something similar and the air compressor I have is a "Porter - Cable C2002 150 PSI 6 Gallon Oil-Free Pancake Compressor", here are the air compressor's specs;

• Tank Size: 6.0 gl
• Horsepower: .8
• Pounds / Square Inch: 150
• Weight: 34
• Shipping Weight: 39
• Lubrication: Oil Free
• Air Delivery @ 40 PSI: 3.5
• SCFM @ 90 PSI: 2.6
• Regulator: Hi-flo
• Gauges: 2
• Quick-Connect Couplers: 2
• Pressure Release: Yes
• Amps: 10

So can I use this with my Iwata airbrush ? I don't have enough money to buy a "proper" air compressor at this time. I'm trying to make due with what I've got.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It's been a super long time since I touched an airbrush, but I recall most compressors need to have some moisture control that the industrial types are missing. You could probably source a pressure regulator and moisture trap, but it may be better just to buy a dedicated compressor.
