VentureCraft Go-DAP DAC/Amp /Series: Go-DAP X (13th May 2012) and Go-DAP TT (21st May 2013) - Page 21

Hi this is probably a stupid question but I have the Go Dap X and I'm really enjoying it.

My question is how does the amp switch work ?

I thought that if its in the lowest position then it does not charge and the middle position is charging the ipod ?

Please enlighten me on this.

Yes, "AMP" and "SYNC" won't charge your iDevice while "AMP->i" will charge. However, if you have older firmware, you will notice that it will charge your iDevice (iOS 6) no matter what position of switch you are set.

I must have older firmware as my ipods charging icon appears on both "AMP" and "AMP->i".

I don't think you can update firmware by yourself. My Go-Dap X is pre-mass production model, so it come with original firmware. I had to send it back to VentureCraft twice. Once for upgrade compatibility with android phone and another for the firmware update.

It should be a bit difficult to compare between my original and upgraded X because both OPAMP and output impedance are changed but I'll do my best to give you a feed back on the upgrade.

Just got my X back from VentureCraft. I can say that after the modification, it sound a lot better than my original one. I can't say that it due to LME49860 or the 10Ω output impedance but one of them make my X sing.

I notice that bass suppression on my W4R is gone. The sound signature of my W4R and TF10 aren't different between direct from ipod and from Go-Dap X anymore. Beside that the details all across the frequency ranges are much better than from ipod. I would say that it is better than my original MUSES8920. Next is to test it with my new MH335DW but sadly it haven't arrive yet.

That's one of the reasons why I do like to deal with VentureCraft. They've got very good customer service. I don't know if my LME49860 does have or doesn't have the 10ohm headphone out.

Earlier today I sent my X for LME49860/10ohm customization. Hopefully I get similarly good results with the pimped X.

Venturecraft is indeed graceful in handling customers, even pesky ones like me :p

The white label that stick on your X when they send it back will have the details what work that they did on the unit.AppleMark

Mine doesn't have the sticker at the back. I just have the LME sticker on the side.

Well I always got that sticker on everytime I got it back from them. This is my third times sending my X to them. biggrin.gif

Is the impedance really an issue? I figured Venturecraft built this with mobile listening in mind so IEMs should all work well. Sometimes I don't know if you really need to read into the specs that much.

whats the headphone impedance upgrade for ?
i have go-Dap 4.0 not X but i thought the internal are quite similar

my go dap is still at venture craft for firmware upgrade

do i nned to ask them to upgrade the headphone impedance too ?

i only use them with my audio technica ATH CM7Ti and V-moda M-100

if i need to upgrade that i might as well ask them for it since the go-dap is still with them right now, thank you.

Even with 47Ω output impedance, X is working fine. From my experience with TG334, W4R, and TF10, I notice some change in sound signature when paring X with all of them. At first, I think that it's because of OpAmp characteristic. TG334 and W4R's bass are suppressed a little (more on W4R) while high are more pronounced. On TF 10, I got the opposite. I learn that output impedance will effect the FR of multiple BA iem, so I suspect that my X is doing that to me. I plan to upgrade OpAmp for my X and ask VentureCraft to change output impedance at the same time. With the new 10Ω output impedance, I get the sound signature of those iem closer to the one right out of my ipod with more clarity and details.

It's not an upgrade. You can say that it's customized to personal preferences. High output impedance is used to protect the circuit of the X but it also change the FR of your iem a little bit.

I hope the X will sound good straight out of the box with my IE80. It would be so painful to ship it back to Japan.
