The hE500 is super. I would kept them if I did not own the hd800 and ended up buying the LCD 2.2 . I do love those headphones. Another headphone I am really liking is the Beyer T90 that is in here for a review. This is really like a T1 for half the price.

No Frank - Just No..

Just kidding,.  However, I did not like the T70 at all.  Way to bright, thin and shrill sounding.  Nothing like the T1.

Can't wait to read your impressions on the T90..wink_face.gif

Don't they? Plus the HE500 sounds terrific on the Stratus with almost every 2A3 I've tried. The Ken Rads do give it a nice boost in the low end though. Another plus, the stock silver cable isn't half bad either. It's like plug-and-play on the Stratus. No upgrades necessary.

Well, a little bit. But nowhere near what I remember from the LCD's. HD650 also came in today, super nice and intimate.

I like it very much even with the new Sennheiser  amp it sounds fantastic on classical music and also on the Woo WA7 and The Taboo. Need to work the V200 in and also cant wait till the Stratus is done

Has anyone tried the HD 700?  And compared it with other headphones?

The triple-mica 6N1P NOS.

The ultra refined rectifier, EML 274B.

Refined + a touch of body, Raytheon 5U4G. A personal fav.

Switched out the Cardas Gold for some silver! Some new Acoustic Zen Silver Reference II interconnects.

I must admit I underrate the RCA/Cunningham's sometimes, especially with the HD800. A very musical pairing!

The unique Tung Sol Flat-plate, Cross-mica 2A3's.

A happy Tung Sol family.

The sound of the Tung Sol 2A3? Slightly extended at the top. Slightly less linear in the mids than the RCA's. IMO, maybe a touch sweet for the HD800 but just right for the HD650 and LCD2.

Where did the 3M 61NP come from - factory and vintage?

I am in the process of doing that now. It is a decent headphone. It is very close to the hD600 in sound. If you want more information you can PM me. I am doing a review for July on the hd700.

Novosibirsk, 1965. Also have a few from the voshkod factory, 1979, with black plates, which I might actually prefer more.

I just ordered 8 from the same plant for 20.00 shipped all new tubes. I have voshkod in the house already. These tubes are excellent tubes and I preferred it over the RCA 6Bq7 I had when the demo was here but then I did not listen long enough to really give a good opinion on the RCA,when my amp comes next month I will listen more. I just paid for the EML Mesh Plates and will have those to look at until bigsmile_face.gifthe amp arrives.

Congrats on the EML tubes. They're closer to solid state sounding than what I've heard and have nice synergy with the LCD's. The T90 would probably do well with the EML's as well. Can't wait for your T90 impressions.

At this moment, my Stratus has the RCA monoplates and the HE500 plugged in. I'm getting some nice bass from this combo and, of course, marvelous soundstage! beyersmile.png

I plugged the HD800 into the Stratus last night after 4 days of only listening to the HE500 and was floored again. What a combo.

I am still 4 weeks out so  I cant wait till the amp get here.   I been keeping busy with the solid state sennheiser hdvd800. The Taboo sound great with the hd800 as well.

Just wait.  They can call me a fanboy all they want but the Stratus is hands-down the best amp I have ever heard for the HD800.

Current favorite Stratus set up:  EML 5U4G - Sylvania military dual flat plate 2A3 - Russian 6N1P.  The EML rectifier gives the amp some real low frequency kick.  The Sylvanias are a tad sweet and almost perfectly linear.  And after trying various input tubes, I still find the stock Russian to have the most even response.  The 6BQ7As that I have tried all give the top end too much emphasis, verging on shrill.  Second favorite set-up is to swap the power/finesse relationship and put in the sublime military Sylvania 274B with the military Ken Rad double box plate 2A3s, same input tube.  This is a tamer combo but with just as perfect a tone - better for jazz or acoustic, whereas the first combo is the real rocker.
