I think I will keep the tubes for the time being, as they may come in useful if I decide to get other headphones in future. As for music, mostly jazz, pop and occasionally classicals. Below is a picture of the Stratus with the footers taken from the bottom of my acrylic rack. Pardon the quality of the pic.

Four days ago a very well packed Stratus has been delivered, yippie, it was well worth the wait. Compared to the Sonett it is big and much heavier. I am so impressed by the wonderful sound, the tiniest details which would be normally buried in the background, are now contributing to the listening experience, I am getting so emotional while listening to string quartets, so many tears because of the sheer beauty of the audio and the music. When playing with my Yamamoto DAC as a source the music draws attention, it requires to actively listen, going fully into the music with heart and mind, it is almost impossible to listen analytically and I feel no need to do so. I prefer the LCD-3 with some EDM, the Stratus drives it beautifully.

To me the Sonett is still is very good amp, however the Stratus stepped up so much in all facets and added many new qualities. The positive dna of DNA shine through in more shades of colors. From Wikipedia: --The word "stratus" comes from the Latin prefix "srato-", meaning "layer"-- The Stratus certainly does justice to its name.

Thank you Donald for bringing us so many new layers to our musical enjoyment. :)

Sorry to be so slow.  I was in the US without a computer, driving cross country.  My SP was more colored, but also could be more engaging. I had it for about 7-8 years and in the end I was running exclusively 6SN7GT's (or their electricl equivalents) as output tubes.  The 701s were still pretty neutral, but more engaging.  The HD650s could sometimes make the music overly warm, but with male baritone voices - like L. Cohen - were absolutely the best sound I ever heard.  I didn't own the HD800s at the time.  The Stratus is a lovely amp, don't get me wrong.  There are just times I would like to hear more romance and less realism in vocals.

With EDM I mean electronic dance music, I only have the stock tubes and as Santacore wrote: "The stock tubes sound really good..."

I decided to ask Donald to build me a Stratus because of my very good 4 year experience with the Sonett and all contributions to this thread. Thank you all a lot.

LOL!!!

im undecided because WA5 can drive HE-6 as well as its a great amp, tubes cost more than Stratus though.

The Stratus is just as good and uses cheaper tubes, I can just pop in a U52 and some NOS 2a3 and be done, WA5 has pricy tubes and costs more. Both have balanced output too.

.... but only one is blue.....
