DNA Stratus 2A3 amplifier - first impressions - Page 113

I sometimes tire of the perfection of the Stratus and yearn for a little more warmth.  I have the RCAs and i just ordered a pair of Ken-Rads.  We'll see.  I gave up on the flagship headphones and added a pair of HD650s, which I like almost as much as my K701s and sometimes more when i am in a romantic mood.  But they aren't broken in, yet.  I was thinking about trying a silver cable to make them a bit more neutral, but these experiments often go wrong.

Good luck with your new setup.

What is the difference between your Singlepower MPX (which is gone ...) - AKG 701/HD650 and the Stratus - AKG701/HD650 ? Thanks.

My 2 cents -- I LOVE my AKG headphones with the Stratus! I have K702 and K550. Both sound very good! Sometimes I even prefer the K702 to HD800 on the Stratus. Considering the $$$ diff ....

My fellow Head-Fiers,
I finally received my Stratus! Wooow! It sounds absolutely phenomenal! I'll write up a proper listening report in a few weeks time. I'll definitely also report on my tube rolling experience.

I'd like to thank all of you for being so generous in sharing your experiences and answering all of my questions! I can't tell you how much I appreciate it! I'd obviously also like to thank Donald for building such a magnificent amplifier, a work of art really!

I figured I'd also post some pictures. It's very difficult to properly capture the color of the amp. The photos were taken on a sunny afternoon. The Stratus' blue is usually both darker and richer. I think the last picture should also give you a decent sense of the size of the amp. It can look smallish on some photos; it really isn't.

I have my Stratus hooked up to my Naim DAC. The pictured tubes are 2A3 Sophia Princess Mesh Plates, a CV575 (U52) '54 GEC-Osram and a 6N1P-e '68 Novosibirsk Triple Mica Black Plate.

Wow looks great - nice clean set-up. Looking forward to more impressions. Have you listened to the stock tubes as well? That tube set-up is the one that i want to go for.

So what prices do the AVVT 2A3's go for when they come up for sale?

I hardly ever see them come up for sale.  But I have seen pricing similar to NOS RCA Single plates which is 500-1500 per pair.

Check out my 2a3 thread for some recommendations.

actually not really, I will receive my amp sometime in September. Donald was nice enough to hold it back a bit for me. A few things came up (friends decided to get married) in the meantime. But I don't mind waiting - I will flood this thread with pics when i get mine. :D

Great to hear. I love my WyWire's and was impressed by these at the latest L.A. meet. I thought about grabbing 1 for my HD800's and my LCD-3's.
