**Best amp/dac for $400**

Okay, so I own the d2k and he400 and would like to have a proper desktop unit. I would prefer an amp/dac combo. Not that really into tubes. I have owned the LD mk+1 and it was just okay. I have owned the Audio GD Compass and thought it was pretty nice. So I was thinking about the nfb 12.1. No portable unit suggestions please.

Any suggestions are appreciated...

sigh no not yet, I did post the question and the answer I got was "good", thats it. The explanation was its uncoloured and transparent, so it doesn't add anything to the sound of the headphones, unlike tubes for instance, but with the denons thats pretty much what you want, since the phones themselves have a very nice sound, they just need to be fed with good clarity, I am not so sure about the HE-400

And the new D100 II has a slightly warmer sound apparently.

I really like the look of it and the reviews are favorable. Would like to find a used one.

Isn't there a MStage with with built in?

After researching nonstop all night. I've decided for now I am going to go for the Asgard + Bifrost Combo for my He-400. First I'll get the Asgard and power it up with one of Fiio's DAC until I have enough money to get the Bifrost later on. Apparently Asgard is great for both the He-400 and He-500.

Interesting. I would thought that as easy as it is to drive the he400's, that they would not need such a high end combo. Please PM me your impression.

thanks...Matt

not 100% decided yet. Might even just go for the Asgard alone and match it up with the HRT Music Streamer Dac to save some money. Or i might try the O2+ODAC after when the reviews come out..which may take awhile...

I had that combo in mind till i went and listened to it.

take your stuff and go into store it pays to hear it all together, you might end up somewhere else.

good luck i just went through it.

What is the due date on that and the price point?

ODAC is released at $60 as a plug in for the ODA which isn't released
