Feedback for Justin's Headphone Modding (jschristian44) - Page 9

O.k as parents I guess we are clueless. We are finding all this out from your posts . We thought he was making items and just receiving parts in the mail , to make items . The money he got we thought was just going back into making items, and some profit. Not buying those priced items. He is not working, so we thought he was just making these for some money to buy a bike. I am not sure what to do right now, he is in Alaska trying to find a job, My husband knows about this and we are trying to figure out what to do. We will try to make this right.
 

I would like to say that I don't believe Justin did this with malicious intent, I simply believe it was a combination of neglegence (he forgot about my order, then didn't pay me back), and "biting off more than he could chew" (taking all these jobs when he needed to go to Alaska).

As for the items, it seems like he was simply trying to "flip" a number of them for a quick buck. Not sure if it worked out for him in the end.

Apparently, Justin now has Internet access.  He has replied to a post on DIYAudio  a few hours back looking to see if more O2 amplifier panels were available.

This is Justin from Head-fi and eBay.  I have everyone’s stuff at my house and can easily finish it up pretty quickly.  As most of you know, I have moved to Alaska for the summer and will return early September.  I have tried to finish most of your stuff before I left, but I couldn’t get it all done in time.  I told most of you if it was alright if it didn’t get done in time that I could just finish it when I get home.  I really had no idea that you would be posting my home address for everyone to see and actually threatening to call the police.  As most of you know, or ask the people which I have modded stuff for things before that I am a very trustworthy person.  I have honestly tried the best I could to get most of everyone’s stuff done in time but things came up.  My mother is going to have most of the stuff shipped here so I can finish it and then send it out again.  Some of the stuff like the wooden cups an just be sent from my house to you.  But I know and the guy with the DT880’s I need to finish up and I can do that here if you really need it done.  I would just truly be grateful if you could back off a little bit and do not give out my personal information for everyone to see.  If you read my feedback on my Head-fi and eBay you can see I do good work for people and I am an honest person.  I can get the wooden cups sent out to you from my house that is easy.  I know the guy who ordered the Grado cups with the extra set I can send them out easily.  As for the T20RP, I was finishing them up when I left but couldn’t’ get them done in time.  I was trying to have a good summer here but threatening to call the police is just a little too much and I honestly would have tried a lot harder if I knew that this was going to happen.  But if you really need me to do all the stuff I can finish it up here.  But please back off the police stuff and giving out my personal information.  My family is really upset and it really is very easy to get your stuff done and get it shipped out to you.  I just want to have a good time here .  I would also like everyone who I need to do stuff for e-mail me personally at my e-mail address relient1128@gmail.com with exactly what they need done.  I will do my best to get it done quickly.  Again, please check my feedback on all the sites and ask people I have done stuff for before and you will know that I do good work and am honest.  Thank you

I have no stake in this matter, but I had to reply after reading your response.

First, you are correct that posting your home address here on the public is inappropriate, and I'm surprised that the mods have not yet removed it. I'll flag the posts with your address and hopefully those will be cleaned up soon.

Yes, you may have had a great deal of positive feedback before. But that does not give you a free pass in this matter, especially given the number of people that you owe goods and/or money to right now. 

You repeatedly say how easy and quickly it is to get most of the stuff you owe done, yet you failed to do so before you left for Alaska. At a certain point, if you were becoming overwhelmed with work, you should have put a hold on taking money for new work while spending your time to complete your existing work. That would be the responsible thing to do.

You say that you had informed everyone that you would finish their items after you got back from Alaska, but you clearly did not communicate this clearly given the level of anxiety displayed by the people that you are dealing with right now. What you should have done, given how easy you state all this stuff is to complete, is to have taken everything with you to Alaska, finish it there, and send it off.

What I find really appalling is your statement "I was trying to have a good summer here," but that all this commotion here is ruining it for you. That's incredibly selfish and irresponsible. What about the "summer" for all the people that are waiting for their money or goods from you? No concern of yours?

You complain about people contacting the police in this matter, but ask yourself this, honestly: If you sent someone several hundred dollars worth of equipment or money, waited around for several months, continually being told to "have patience," then have that person go off and be unavailable for more months, while still not getting anything you were promised, what would you do? How would you feel? I'd say you feel violated and upset, and contacting the police would seem like a very logical response to try and recoup your apparent losses.

Clearly, you are young, and hopefully you will learn much from this situation. I hope you realize how fortunate you are that you have two understanding parents who are working to help you fix the mess you've created here. Please do your best to resolve this matter expeditiously, for the good of the Head-Fi community and for your own conscience.

When I received these, I couldn't believe he had sold them for $300. the wood finish was sticky and unfinished (very uneven and blotchy), the cable was running naked into the cups, and the hole in the cups was about 3 times the size of the cable. the wire grills on the sides of the cups were too big, and pushed in by finger, they rattled and moved as they weren't even adhered into place. the y splitter was much too close to the cups so they dug into your neck. I mentioned all this to him at the time and he took it onboard as feedback. I thought he was a nice guy and clearly inexperienced so I let it go with a neutral feedback and just shouldered the cost myself. Sure, I don't like being ripped off but in this case It was a good learning experience.

I gave them away to a friend I know who has little money and was going to try and fix up the headphones, by creating sleeving, taking out the ill fitting wire mesh on the cups and cutting them to the right size. he was then going to refinish the cups.

They failed last night, after about 10 hours use. I will take them back and see if I can get them fixed as it looks like the soldering job is also botched.

I cant even be bothered chasing him for the $300 I paid for them. it will probably cause issues for his family. I dont think anyone should be making threats or posting his real life address in a thread on a forum. that should have been removed.

I recommend people deal with this guy in future with caution. He is a very friendly guy to deal with, but I have no doubt that he hasn't a clue what he is doing. Sadly when I dealt with him, his feedback was all positive. Why is this the case when so many people are complaining about the transactions in here? does no one use the feedback system to warn others? I thought that was the point of it.

Being nice to people is a great trait to have. He is classed as a trade member however so he also needs to actually know what he is doing. Anyone with any experience wouldn't be dealing with people in this way or sending out headphones at this standard of workmanship.

His member of the trade status should be revoked and Headfi need to vet people in the future. A kid in a garage making a mess of modding headphones then selling them should not be supported by Headfi.

Is there anyone that liked Justin's headphones ? If not I would rather not send the items he needs to finish to Alaska, because they are expensive earphones? I thought he posted pictures for people to see. I will try to check this site to see what is all going on with him now that I know all this. He will make things right , I will do my best from here. He will be back hopefully in September, he went there to get his life back on track , no job here to much time on computer. He should have thought how he would feel if this would have happened to him your right he would not have been happy, if he got bad headphones. Not sure why a lot of positive, when everyone here said he has bad. So let me know if anyone had positive here and why everything bad is coming out now!
 

Some thoughts came to mind last night and over the night based on some of the better comments that have been posted in this thread:

Posting an Address:  Yes, this is wrong to do.  However, also keep in mind, Justin is an adult living within his parent's home.  One would think that an individual would respect his living area and be a good citizen.  It's at this point where Justin is coming out and saying it's a wrong thing to do.  Well, if the acts of behavior that he chose to take did not happen, this thread would not exist.

The Use of the Police:  Sorry, Justin.  You're wrong again.  Many of these people have already been waiting over 45 days.  They no longer have the option to file a complaint through PayPal because that time has passed.  Also, when people paid via the "gift" method, they basically gave up their right to make a PayPal claim.  If you are running a business, then you have to factor in the real charges associated with running a business.  These factors include profit, loss, operational expenses, etc.  You should have built the PayPal fees into your prices so people would have been protected as customers.  Also, I've been involved with a bad experience on a purchase before. I only got it resolved through a police department that was local to the individual.  What we have going on here is a CRIME.  People don't know where their items are, or where their money is.  Simply stating that you'll make it right?  When?  How?  Keeping people who have already been waiting a few months for a resolution waiting until September is not an adequate solution.  Additionally, the FBI has an Internet crimes division. Personally, if I were one of those on the short end here, I honestly wouldn't ignore using either course of action at this point.

Privacy: Again, the posting of your address made me think of privacy.  However, all one needs to do is simply Google "JSChristian44" and they'll get pages of all your Internet activity.  Simply put, you've left tracks all over the Internet and it's not hard to track you down.

Proper Communication: Justin, I believe you really would have left all of these people out there and waiting until at least September.  Even then, it's hard to tell if you had good enough records to follow through with what they asked for in the first place.  Additionally, I sent two inquiries through eBay to your different IDs alerting you of the issues and mess  you left back here at Head-Fi.  You didn't care to respond to my alerts.  Keep in mind, you wouldn't be here in this thread right now if it wasn't for: 1) Your poor techniques with communication, time and promises that you made, and: 2) If communication with your mother had not been made.  

Time / Money: Finally, how does someone without an income have the capability to write 484 product reviews on Amazon? http://www.amazon.com/gp/pdp/profile/A3TA1UJWRJF9NC/ref=cm_cr_pr_pdp  There are not "get rich quick" methods in our society.  With each role, you have to put your time in.  You have champagne tastes when it comes to electronics, but you can't afford those items without an income.

I am a little shocked as to why he has such positive feedback on headfi apart from a few people. If the administrator team are letting him have a 'member of the trade' title, then at least you guys with problems can inform other people that it is risky to deal with him.

I am not sure that is relevant to this thread, particularly as so many people seem to have been charged for items unfulfilled. perhaps it would be more important for you to get your husband, via his paypal account to refund customers or either return their headphones/components. You said he left to Alaska without the items, so easy enough for you to step in and sort the problems now.

Looking at your sons amazon account he has clearly enough cash, or product to refund your husband. I would strongly suggest that you get your husband to change his paypal account password too, otherwise he could be held responsible for legal issues if people in this thread take it to the police.

It seems rather serious to me, although I personally cant be bothered chasing the $300 he ripped off me for a terrible, unfinished and now non working product.

Luckily he isn't my son, because I have a fair idea of how I would handle it.

at least headfi have banned justin, no other people can be ripped off.
