Obviously you wouldn't be able to install your music player of choice, but here at least most stores would let me try one out with my own headphones. I'd just take in a USB OTG cable and a flash drive, although I'm sure most stores would also be happy for me to pop in a flash card too. Alternately you could ask one of the many existing owners to try theirs if you knew anyone with one. Sorry to hear the shops where you are suck so hard.

Just got the GS3 in pebble blue on a 12mth contract. So snappy compared to the GS2.

Loving it :)

He said based on his measurements the E17 was inferior to the Wolfson, and he didn't suggest getting that particular DAC, as far as I'm aware he didn't make more expansive comments about using external DACs in general (I could be wrong about that, I may not have seen everything he said on the topic). He also didn't stipulate whether his Wolfson tests were using his Voodoo'd one or not, which is obviously a fairly major distinction in terms of the context of those comments.

Anyways, I don't think we need to clutter up the thread with discussions of this kind so that's all I have to say on the matter. Happy to try and reach a mutual understanding via PM, or simply agree to disagree.

Just read this...http://www.androidnz.net/2012/06/top-10-standalone-apps-for-your-new.html

Very nice, will be getting a few of these ASAP for my holiday, just wondering if you have an updated list?

if I'm correct on  HP Amp paths had better specs than line-out. Might be the same on , so, clearly there's no need to search for a magic line-out path on   , optimized one is HPOUT!

François Simond ‏@supercurio
it means using FiiO E17 USB DAC instead of built-in @wolfsonmicro #WM1811 degrades audio quality instead of improving it.

François Simond ‏@supercurio
Yup #GalaxySIII DAC give lower distortions levels than FIIO E17 USB DAC. Measurements just confirmed perception.

Many other things were said about it (7th June) but the comments here sums it up pretty nicely...

$36/month on the $60 Optus plan.

1.5gb and $650 worth of calls each month.

It's like $5 per month on the same plan on a 24month contract though... paying a premium for being able to get a new phone each year....

There's no way the WM1811 can be 'better' than the WM8740 in the E17

Well via USB, more distortion is apparent than the HP out, again it comes down to how they are implemented in their circuits

I did a similar sort of thing with my first S3...I bought it off of Gumtree brand new sealed...with email recipt, and 2 weeks later it was IMEI blacklisted (blocked) and for the sake of a £50 saving it really isnt worth it...you dont have to learn the hard way...take it from someone who got burned...only buy from legit stores, it isnt worth it!!!

Supercurio thought the deficiencies were in the implementation in the E17 itself, rather than it being related to the USB audio out. His measurements with the E17 were with it in connection to his PC rather, than via the S3. In his tweet about the line out above he is only speculating that that the HPout may be the optimised output for the Wolfson used in the S3, as it was for the S1.

We did a new post about apps to customise the S3 just this week :)

Guys if you havent already, try out the new Foxhound ROM (V1.3) with N.E.A.K kernel

I have it very heavily undervolted, still stable and buttery smooth!

cpu: 725-750-775-800-825-850-875-900-950-975-1050-1100-1150

gpu: 800-825-850-900

int: 700-725-750-850-850-950-950

Battery life is crazy good, and the phone looks bloody amazing!

I too think it looks great! The blue is really ugly IMO (dark-blue, cheap metallic front/back, lighter blue even cheaper-looking sides, purple-ish home button... come on!) but the white looks classy and sleek. :)
