What headphones should I buy?

I am going to buy some headphones for my mates birthday. I know that I should only buy from brands such as akg, sennheiser denon and the like. BUT, I know that my mate doesn't really care about all that. I know that he wants a designer headphone, he cares about branding . My mate cares about bass and all that dubstep and rap stuff ( I don't really get into it) and looks. So. The white elephant in the room is beats, but I know better and am not going to waste my money. There is also skullcandy. I really don't like the brand, and have read scathing reviews online.  I then turn to Marley. They supplied me with my last headphone, the positive vibration (see picture) , and I am very pleased. Looks great, sounds fantastic, more durable than a tank. This is what I am planning to buy for him, but I really need to keep my options open.

What I am sure my friend wants is

  • Bassy
  • Good looking
  • Preferably designer, but not needed as long as is good looking

It would be awesome if I got some replies from you guys, as most of my friends are idiots when it comes to headphones and follow what is trendy ( BEATS!!!!).

Gosh maybe the Pioneer HDJ series or the sony XB? The ones MalveauX listen aren't designer and while fairly bassy aren't over the top. I will second the DT 770 pro 80ohm's but there pretty ugly honestly.

Maybe the V-moda crossfade LP's? I'm trying to think of something flashy...

Beats are way more than that haha but this certainly narrows it down, the answer would be the Sony XB500's there $80 at Bestbuy but you can get them on Amazon for $45-$50.

You might be able to find the M-Audio Q40's for $60ish but I have heard its better with an amp.

Finally I think the Blingyest, bassiest thing for <$150 would be the Audio-technica Pro 700 MKII's or the Ultrasone HFI580's or even better the DJ1's (same thing just painted different)

Looking at the Marley site, I doubt we'll be able to recommend anything with equal or more bling than the Positive Vibration:

The Sony XB500 that has already been mentioned will produce massive bass output, but are simply no match for that kind of visual display!

If you're set on a "designer" pair of headphones for your friend, then I would go with Marley as well. Based on everything I've read about them. and from what people have told me, their products are actually really good.

Thanks guys. I feel a lot more comfortable about buying these for my mate. I reckon I will go for the rebels because I've already got the vibrations and wearing the same headphones is like two guys wearing the same t shirt.
