You obviously haven't read any of the thread to make comment like that.  Why did you bother even posting?

I own a lot of DAPs ranging from Cowon, Apple to the Sony Walkman. To be honest the Cowon D2 and Creative Zen X-Fi2 are the worst sounding DAPs that I own IMO. The best sounding DAPs I own are the Sony X1060, A729, Cowon J3, Samsung Galaxy Wifi 4, iPod Video 5.5G, iPod Nano 6G and iPhone 4S. So IMO the iPods and Samsungs sound better than the Cowon (or the D2 at least as the J3 is not bad).

My Nano 7G and Touch 5G sound better than the old ones because...they're new.

Seriously, I liked the sound of Cowon players (and Sony) but hated the Cowon UI.

I have had a D2 forever, it is the original 2gb model.

Rockboxed it a while back.

The thing does everything.

And it is a tank.

The Galaxy sounds like garbage, but I guess it can be rooted and some amp potential unlocked somehow but I am not up for that. Guess it is easier with the phone model, but I have the player.

The J3 is great, too, clean sound and great presents, but not rockboxable so far as I know, and likely never will be.

I had a 4th gen touch, and loved it for a pda/game player and cam on the fly, but for sound... meh. no guts. sold it.

I use the D2 to drive my superluxes, and with the para eq sound is phenomenal. but then again i am not driving thousand dollar custom iem's either... or 500dollar full-sized cans either.

I am using M4s and sometimes Betas, break out the portapros every once in a while, and otherwise live with my 30dollar superlux 681s. with the eq set right, these things sound as good as anything at the headphone shops I have ever tested, and I use the same player at some of these places, too. simply can't see the need to shell out when the eq can do that work for me for free.

I will NEVER pay 700 bux for a music player.

And, Apple has pissed me off so badly lately that I may never buy another Apply product as long as I live (and I had a 2e at one time, way back... still liked my old TRS-80 better). Maybe a used something someday, but otherwise, never.

Good to know that you like your D2. I really wish I could like my D2 because as you said it does everything including DAB radio. I really tried to like the sound signature of the D2 but to me IMO it sounds dull and the soundstage and stereo seperation is crap. However the Cowon J3 and D3 are an improvement in the SQ department. I agree that the Galaxy does sound crap unless it has Voodoo installed which vastly improves the SQ.

have you put rockbox on your d2?

you might enjoy that level of control.
