Can't get my Cmoy to amplify, all it does is distort.

I'm trying to re-build my old CMoy from a long time ago. For now, I've got it set up on a breadboard to make sure it works before I actually solder anything. But it doesn't make the music any louder, its pretty much the same volume, but extremely distorted. I'm using two 9v batteries, 4.7k resistors, 680uf power caps and a TLE2426 for the power supply, I confirmed the voltages with my meter, 18v from the batteries, and 9v either side of the vground. I'm not using any output (R5) resistors. I've tried both my OPA2228U and AD8620 ICs, I've tried replacing the 100nf cap, I've tried switching the 680uf caps to 100uf caps, I've confirmed all my resistor values, I can't figure out what the hell I'm doing wrong. I know these amps worked before, I've used them before. Any ideas?

Well apparently its because the demo headphones I was using had an inline microphone (blackberry headphones), which meant there was a 4th sleeve on the 1/8" plug, which apparently made everything screwy. I don't know how, or why, because these headphones have always worked just FINE in ordinary 1/8th" sockets without a microphone input, but apparently not in my CMoy.

So let that be a lesson to you all, use normal headphones!

It would depend on the physical positioning of the contacts in the jacks you're using.
