Yes, I've seen many comments to that effect, and the lure of better fidelity is a factor in my thinking. Yet I've also read posts from users who've compared the two players' audio quality side-by-side, and those folks report they couldn't tell them apart. I suspect there is little difference between them, at least in terms of sound quality. However, the difference in battery life is real, and it's not trivial.

Thanks,

Brian

I think that's kind of unfair though brand that those who say it's "better fidelity" is a "lure". I've not owned a HDP-R10 but I've listened to them as the stores. As such I can't comment on their battery life being longer as being "real". Therefore to be fair, for those who haven't experienced the HDP-R10, the battery longevity is just as much as hearsay as it is about the SQ.

Hi, AnakChan -

Perhaps you misunderstand me: I simply meant "lure" as a synonym for "attraction." (:

As for the HDP-R10 itself, there seems broad agreement that its battery is unambiguously better, whereas I can only determine that the sound quality is at least as good as the DX100.

I had both HDP-R10 and DX100 and after comparing them side by side I found the R10 to be better sonically (eventually I sold my DX100).

Has anyone compared the r10 to the hm901?

I am agree with you that HDP R10 SQ is better than DX 100
That's why I sold my DX 100 after I owned for only 1 week

I tried the DX100 and found it inferior as well.

I may have shared on the DX100 or AK120 thread but my personal preference :-

1) HM-901
2) DX100
3) AK120
4) RWAK100

On my way to the beach so I can't elaborate much from typing on my phone.

Never owned the HDP-R10 so can't say how the R10 would compare against the 901.

Just curious, why are you selling your DX100?

HM-901 has kinda replaced my DX100, AK120 replaced the RWAK100.

Siting in the office I use the HM-901 whilst on-the-move I'll be the AK120 or Tera.

So you don't recommend HM901 for on to go use? I read about warming up and relatively low battery life with balanced card but, is it that bad?

For me, yep...in my suit pants. I could put it in my satchel I guess but I kinda feel contained heat isn't good for the longevity of the battery. So I rather have some kind of ventilation.

Do you know if the hm901 battery life will be longer if, instead of using the amp in the hm901 to drive things, just use the 901 as a source for a portable amp? This is important because I plan on using the 901 with a portaphile 627x.
