You can run but you can never hide. Eyes and ears are everywhere and they know their mission.

I know. I was contemplating trying to lay low in the Parrot-Fi thread. But I'm sure even that wouldn't work with the fanatic mentalities that populate this board. You're all a bunch of freaks!

I don't know how they can fit a 4800mah battery in place of the 2000mah while the power circuitry and dimension remain the same. If the battery information is true, they must completely overhauled the design or it is simply a different DAP. Does anyone know if DX100 uses OPA627 & BUF634 as well? Assuming HDP-R10 is the same as DX100, the 4800mah could simply be a "fat" battery with "extended" battery cover? Sort like those third party extend battery pack available for iphone?

I am on the edge of pick up a new a dx100 and doesn't welcome this news. Most likely, I will hold my purchase until more information is available...

iBasso said the DX100 uses 2x4.2V/2000mAh in serial (as such 8.4V) whilst the HDP-R10 uses a single 4.2V/4800mAh. I didn't believe them till I opened up the DX100.

If the HDP-R10 really uses a 4.2V/8400mAh then it's really different h/w & not really a DX100 variant at all. Yet to be seen when the HDP-R10 is released.

The DX100's OpAmp is sanded off so can't tell what sort of OpAmp it uses.

About waiting for the HDP-R10, I am under the impression it's for the local Japan market, not for overseas?

Thank you for clear it up, especially the time and effort opening up ur dx100 .

I posted my speculation on the original ibasso dx100 thread. There is a chance that international version of 2000mah @ 8.4v doesn't comply with with Japan's safety standard so they have to come out with a 4800mah @ 4.2v design. The OpAmp won't be the same and most likely will not have the same headphone output. In return, u get 2x running time and great sound for IEMs.

Regarding purchase HDP-R10 outside Japan, I am sure some import / export companies will jump in as long as there is a decent demand. But I am not sure how many ppl are willing give up output power for extra running time. I guess it all depends how Hibino price HDP-R10.

I will be one of those, as 95% of the time I use IEM with the dx100, and the extra time will be a big plus, at least for me. How the sound will be different? Don't know, But hibino will not accept anything less than if not better than the dx100.

Whoo, Japan!

Now to get this or hold off on the hp_p1 version 2?

Since we're meeting on Friday before the Fujiya Headphone Festival, you can try out both my Go-DAP (both the AD8397 & OPA1612), and my DX100. I assume you have an iPhone 4/4S, then you can try with your own tracks.

If you have a microSD card, you can dump your tracks (I recommend FLAC 24/96 if you can) under the /Music folder then you can try the DX100 with your own tracks too.

I am also expect to use IEM with dx100 most of the time. But I think I will forego running time for the extra power.

I think what truely place dx100 on top of most DAP (price justification) is its dac & opamp. It wouldnt make much sense if a $800 player can't drive a decent pair of reference cans and require a portable amp rubber banded to its back. At least, it will not be able to compete with hm801, which also has two lipos in series with 9v output.

If I ever need more juice on the go, I can connect it to an external power pack.

IBasso have just told me that there is no more room inside the DX100 for a bigger battery

Well, a few things....actually, I think the subject of this thread could potentially be a little misleading. According to iBasso, the HDP-R10 has different specs from the DX100 (8.4V vs 4.2V), DSD Support, etc. I didn't believe it at first (as such I actually opened up my DX100), and if the HDP-R10 is truly a different voltage, then internally/electronically it's constructed differently. Therefore, can the HDP-R10 be truly considered as a "Japanese version of DX100"?

No.  Perhaps a DX110.
