I Basso HDP R 10 is IBasso DX 100 Japan Version impressions thread - Page 87

Hello guys. Forget about Rockbox player. It works but the sound quality from rockbox player on R10 is far worse than what R10's integral player offers.

I just checked out few symphonies by Beethoven with rockbox and I found more than half of detail is wiped out.

Rockbox player is less buggy but it's not the best for sound quality.

i think we have already discussed this before in this thread. Only the stock music player on this DAP could communicate directly with the DAC unit. The Rockbox or other player only run on main cpu, also none of them could decode high-end studio records. This leads me to believe that any music apps on my iphone 4 doesn't sound better than the stock music player itself.

I heard that we can actually flash HDP R10 with DX100's firmwares. I am really interested, Has anyone here tried to do it before?

A lot of people have reported that it doesn't work. But it seems like there's a russian software which can make it work. I wonder if that will make my R10 better though.

Ok I've read the past few pages of this thread, until now I was sure I wanted to buy a hdp r10 or dx100 but DAMN! If this thing is that buggy 2 years after release I'd better stay away.

Is it really that bad guys? Amazon has the hdp r10 for $699.99 and I was just about to buy it. Should I just play it safe and buy the dx90? I'll be using sony xba h3 and grado sr325is (kind of why I wanted the 1/4" headphone out)

The unit wasn't that buggy. Except for the slow boot up and reaction. Make sure you get from a place that will help you send it back. As of now I'm stuck with paper weight because neither side wishes to help.

No problems with mine. Don't think its ever froze or anything. Had more problems with my x3.

Does have slow start up time, but not really an issue for me.

Cheers.

I have: HM901, HDP R10 and MA9.

HDP is fastest of all of them and you can put rockbox on it!

HDP sounds better than hm901 !

Its not buggy. I never had single lock down. It had received recent 9.03 with google market update.

Ibasso has best amplification too.

Dont listen to noobs :o) Its the only player that sounds like real desktop device.

Thanks for all the insight guys I really appreciate it

Where does the dx90 stand in sound quality? I don't have any high impedance or hard to drive cans, but I do want supreme sound. Is the hdp r10 worlds better?

Never had any problems with my R10 since owning it for nearly a year now. Yes the boot up is bit slow but not unbearable and I got used to it. You can rockbox it for faster gui but not recommended as mentioned earlier in this thread it sounded worse than the stock gui.

R10 has problems.

If you put full 256GB SD card or 128GB micro SD card, it will take nearly 10 mins to 15 mins to load music. It won't play music till then.

This drives me crazy sometimes because you have to do this every time you reboot.

If you use Rockbox, this won't happen. Its built-in player has this problem. I can't believe they haven't fixed this in the last two years since its release.

However, rockbox doesn't sound good as its built-in player.

R10's sound is the best I've heard so far... it sounds incredible. It makes you feel like you're right in front of that player.

iPod's sound quality is absolutely rubbish compare to R10's.

Sony's walkman, Cowon, Archos, old iRiver, etc all sound ten times worse than R10's sound.

I have requested to iBasso guys to fix this UI issue several times but they have refused to work on it.

They said they won't develop this unit and its series any longer.

What a shame... It could be the best DAP with a better UI and maybe one more SD card slot.

This is known already early on. Search through the threads for the term "Media Scanner" and you'll get more info about what's going on there. Yes it's unavoidable (although you can kill the process...this is Android afterall, but you'll then have an incomplete database of Albums/Artists/Songs/, etc.).

In case you're wondering there's the same process in the DX50/90 too although I have a feeling that they're faster at that media scanning.

The problem is not just that. Sometimes, it just fails to load music properly even after many hours. R10's built-in player will show all songs with 00:00 playing time mark and won't play music.

When this happens, you need to reboot several times. This may not happen if you don't use external memory cards.

I'm not sure what's causing this error.

I sent an e-mail regarding this issue but iBasso guys are not answering.

Recommend you check through the DX100 threads too. These DAPs are from 2012 so there's quite a lot of experiences shared on the threads. But just at a high level, what you've mentioned isn't new. So you may be able to find some answers in either this or the DX100 threads.
