The FitEar CIEM Impressions Thread - Page 50

Is there any news of the Monet being discontinued? I heard it from a fellow head-fier, but I'm really hoping this is not the case.

Sorry again, would anyone mind translating ... um... most of the Q.A page? http://fitear.jp/monet/info/qa.html

It's at moments like these that I wish I had spent more effort into learning different languages.

Apparently you can only demo the Private 223, 333, and MH334. Is the selection larger at Fujiya? My friend went for the festival and is stopping at other shops in Japan as well.

Fujiya-avic should have all model of Fitear. I went to both yesterday. e-earphone don't have C435 on display right now but they use to have it.

To reaffirm this they also had a really good price for an used C435. Though I completely skimped out on their FitEars section whenever I went (e-earphone was the one I went to the most) for the shiny ATs and ended up with a CK100PRO.

I guess they don't have the demo unit available anymore but perhaps they could work something out...? Fujiya definitely had them all, it's where I saw the F111 and almost tried them - again skimping out on the CIEMs as this was before I had fully realized their intrigue and allure (i.e. - before I cared)

How much does FitEar charge for reshells? of used customs?

I think it's inclusive like most CIEM companies (within the 30/60-day whatever) but in that instance I'm not exactly sure. You'd have to ask the person who did spring for them - and considering the circumstances...umm...

There's also the possibility that the used one in question was a demo unit, which is why they no longer have it available for demo (just shooting in the dark here, but it is possibly...right?).

I have also seen several used CIEMs for sale at e-earphone. They sell at greatly discounted prices from new (of course), but you just have to try them and see if you're lucky with the fit. Someone must be buying them because the selection changes each time I go.

Sorry again, would anyone mind translating ... um... most of the Q.A page? http://fitear.jp/monet/info/qa.html

It's at moments like these that I wish I had spent more effort into learning different languages.

I took my shot at it:

Warning: Long (Click to show)

Q.  What has this got to do with "moe"?
A. Because Fitear's R&D head and president Suyama likes anisongs.  But this isn't about being "moe" to a particular category or style (although that is fine too), "moe = to touch the emotional strings" is the original thinking, that's why it is named "Monet" (really?).

Q. Why "Sakamoto"?
A. I don't think you have to ask, it's probably exactly as you think it is. [my note: the gossip is that Suyama-san is a fan of voice actress/anisong singer Sakamoto Maaya (the mascot character Monet looks pretty much like a anime version of Sakamoto Maaya) whom debuted in the mid 90s and is still a very active singer today, if this is true it puts the claim that Monet isn't tuned for modern anisong to rest because it would be strange for him not to be testing an anisong IEM with his favourite anisong singer during development.  Also note that Sakamoto Maaya is a Fitear customer]

Q.  Is this specialised for anisong?
A.  During development the music source was 70% anisong.  The original idea is to be able to enjoy anisong and other music during commute on the Keiyo Line and Hibiya Line, so in a sense it is the result of that.

Q.  So I can only listen to anisong with this?
A. With great respect to those gents and ladies who says this, but you can most definitely listen to other category of music with this.  Considering that the biggest feature of anisong is that it is not restricted to any particular music genre (my note: again pay attention to how the Japanese uses this term), therefore "if you can play anisong well then the other music genre would be fine too".

Q.  So is the birthday the release date, and Monet's favourite food is the president's favourite food?
A.  That's correct.

Q.  Monet is a beginner in musical instruments, so what does she play?
A.  Because she's a beginner she has not decided, personally I want her to play drums or GibsonFLYING V, however in the illustrations it became Stratos.  She definitely likes singing though.

Q.  Is there a genre within anisong that it excels at?
A.  In general I listen to anisongs from the 1960s all the way to the 2010s (there's a rumor of a gap for the 90s), I try to make it so that no matter which ever genre you listen to you can enjoy.  Recent favourties are Melodic Hard Cure (not really recent), Macross F and K-On (just like everyone else?), for oldies there's Urusei Yatsura by Kobayashi Izumi, and even further back there's Watanabe Takeo and Kobayashi Asei are also favourites.  Oh wait, we aren't talking about what anisongs I like (actually I'm not that familiar with them)?

Q.  So the outside appearance of the product will be "moe"?
A.  No.  It looks completely like a normal IEM.

Q.  To compliment this you've made the site anime-like, is that to ride on the "Moe-boom"?
A.  Although it's a double-edge sword, in general I don't dislike this (lol).  Until now it's been done in a very business-like and cool sort of way and I'm getting bored of it (in a sense things done seriously) therefore I wanted to try something where a serious company won't attempt, oh wait, there are other serious companies which had done something similar....

Q.  Is this some kind of bad joke?
A.  It's a very serious joke.

Q.  Is [Monet] a one-off product?
A.  Hmm, it would be interesting to have a sister.

Q.  Do you plan to animated this?
A.  It would be great if it is animated and broadcasted on Chiba TV.

Q.  At least make an anisong for her.
A.  Would this still be an anisong?

Q.  Please make one around 50k yen.
A.  I want to take a proper step forward.... maybe if a universal fit type is released....

Q.  The Monet logo is a bit embrassing lol.
A.  For those bros out there the product won't have the logo.  The look is of a normal IEM (although whether the IEM is normal or not is another topic).

Q.  How is this different to the 335DW?
A.  Compared to the construction of the 335DW which is 2 low/2 mid-low/1 high, Monet uses the same double woofer but omits the mid-low and has 2 high tweeters.  While the punchy mid-low range of the 335DW is its characteristic, for some genre within anisong it's could be a little too much.  Although there would be some anisong where you could only get the most enjoyment on the 335DW, Monet tries to be a bit more crisp and takes a balance in emphasizing the bass line and the vocal range of anisong.

Q.  So expensive!!!
A.  That's a very accurate statement.  Put aside the price first please have a listen, even if you think "It's so expensive!!  But the sound is good, though I won't buy it" then we would be happy.

Q.  Maybe in the mean time you can collaborate with a voice actor or anime character to release an original design.
A.  If that really happens it would be a dream come true.  If any production house or management company is interested please call us right now.

Q.  Fitear who makes IEM is getting serious in many ways!  Why did you go this far Fitear?
A.  It's only the beginning!  Well, we did get into a slightly strange mood...

Q.  Well this is crazy. But that's why I can't give up on the audio hobby
A.  Appreciate your kind words.  We will keep on improving to match your expectations.

Q.  So the president has this kind of interest.
A.  It began more than 30 years ago.  It's because "Anisong is the original background shared by the Japanese people".  Wait, we are straying far from the topic of Monet.

Q.  Suyama Dental Laboratory has knocked on the forbidden door!
A.  We will knock and kick a lot on what we can't see.

Q.  There's a wide range within anisong ... The project itself is interesting though I hope you can add more to it.
A.  It is just as you say.  In reality it's not an overstatement to say that anisong encompass all music genre.  Therefore if you can seriously playback anisong then you can playback any type of music.  That's the intent of developing Monent. < Hey don't make such a big statement

Q.  Isn't Fitear for professional use?
A.  Even right now more than half is made for professional use.  Fitear's relationship with anisong, besides "The president likes them", is that many artists are currently using them.

Q.  So, in the end what are you trying to do?
A.  The Monet project isn't "Whatever it is, it is about anisong".  What we want is even for people unlike you and me whom already likes anisong can forget their bias and freely enjoy anisongs even further. "They are all music.  Whatever music it is let's shake our ear drums".

Wow thanks for the effort, very informative.

Agreed. This translation was really helpful. I'm even more interested in demoing them next year.

Hopefully, Monet will get a sister. And I'll be spending twice the money. biggrin.gif

I will go to Japan at some point to get a pair of 335 I suppose. But I am afraid once they have my prints, it is the beginning of the end for my wallet.

Hahaha isnt that the same for everyone?

Got my v6 recently but still I am yearning for the 335DW. That SQ is just unforgettable.

Now these have come up through reading - http://www.head-fi.org/t/468779/about-fitear-668, http://jp.bt-fi.com/?eid=1267941

They did mention a possible release sometime in the future, but the thread is quite old. Perhaps it's been put on hold? Anyone have any info on this one?

Sadly the C435 and the Pro Audio 335s really don't get much attention, even locally.

Actually I'm still having a fair bit of trouble comprehending the latter link. Seems to be technical and going way over my head. Linear, linear, linear, is all I can gather from that. Any help?
