Thanks, will do! All all the Grados in the stereo shop were all burned in and they sounded amazing! When I tried my P5s I thought they sounded muffled and horrible. I know that the P5s serve another purpose as well and they still sound good to me.

 

I tested the array of Grados with a high grade stand alone DAC and standalone amp; I forgot their brand name. I also tested them with my iBasso Audio D-Zero with my iPhone 4S and they still sounded great! I can't believe that no one has made a video review on the D-Zero; I might make one and post it on YouTube...

Owning the SR225is, for a month now, I am still amazed how great they sound! It really does depend on the genre of music you use them with. When I close my eyes, it almost feels like a band is playing right in front of me.

 

I appreciate the community on helping me narrow down my search for some amazing Grados!

My experience with Grados is that the 60s sounded pretty much exactly the same the day I bought them as the day I sold them. The 225i, on the other hand, was pretty bright out of the box, but now with time, the highs are much more neutral, and going through a headphone amp, sound spectacular in a way the 60s never did. An amp isn't necessary at all, for volume, but they definitely make the bass more impactful.

Definitely recommend the 225is.

Anyone have an idea of how the sr225i stacks up against the q701? I can get either for the same price, but I'm so torn between them. I wish I could just get both! rolleyes.gif

Depends on what type of music you listen to.  Both are not bass monsters but the sr225i does pack more "punch" for rock music.  The Q701 has a more rounded bass better soundstage, less forward, and incredibly even across the sound spectrum.  Both are the best value for the price bracket and amazing headphones imo, but it largely depends on what you listen to.

 

225i excels with rock, metal, or any music that is driving and shines with a forward presentation.

Q701 excels with acoustic jazz, vocals, acoustic music in general really. 

 

The 225i is extremely easy to drive and sounds great out of an iPod.  The Q701 on the other hand, needs a good amp to REALLY show you what it's capable of.  If I had a nice amp capable of driving the Q701's, I'd pick them over the 225i, if not the 225i is the way to go.
