uhh messing up here, will they be loud (280) with the e7? or will i still be looking at the e17 for more volume?

i guess this all really comes down to price

 

the e7 is a solid dac / headphone amp

 

but the e17 is just better?

The E17 will be louder than the E7.  Both should be able to drive the 280s to uncomfortable levels. If you want to use either the E7 or 17 as a DAC only you will need to get the L7 LOD.  This gives you access to the line out. Here's a review by someone I find to be trustworthy.  He compares the E17 to the E7 and E10.
