Beyerdynamic T90 Discussion and Support Thread - Page 107

Have been listening for several hours now to this system:

JRiver MC on Win7 laptop -> ASIO USB -> Bel Canto RefLink -> Violectric V800 -> Bottlehead Crack (CBS-Hytron 12AU7 and Sino 6N13PJ) -> T90

The extremely low jitter S/PDIF from the RefLink to the ultra-low noise floor V800 combined with the rest is resulting in an auditory delight. What little digital glare I experienced before is gone. The euphonic effect contributed by the Crack+tubes is resulting in the best sound yet experienced with the T90. This is one spectacular experience. So I guess it is fair to say that the Crack+T90 scale well with source quality. Later will roll in the RCA cleartop 12AU7 and GEC A1834.

It really is a very easy kit to build. A decent soldering iron from Radioshack and some of their 62/36/2 silver bearing solder and you're good to go. Of course, a better soldering station and grade of solder improves the ease, but if it's for first time in this would be enough to get it down. Slow and steady, follow the instructions, and you'll have all the joy of having assembled it yourself.

Thats exactly what I did.

Auditioned the DT 880's LCD 2.2 and T1's

DT880....step backwards in some regards, better highs though. but still very good.

LCD 2.2 wern't for me, way to big, lack high's and crispness.....seemed kind of boring.

Tried the T1's again....since I briefly auditioned them a long time ago and they were amazing. I think because I have had some time to get familair with the Tesla sound with the t90's everything, and I mean everything sounded better, but most importantly the highs sounded right to me.

cheers to the last headphone I will ever buy haha.

I still think the T90's are great and pretty close to the of the T1's,.....but that 10-20% to me makes a hell of alot of difference to me.

thanks for the advice haha.

Thank you.

Its actually not far off, very similar, the T1 seems to dig a tiny bit deeper.

Very nice :)

I'm sure they sound amazing off of the Crack and Violectric.

Received my demo pair of T90's and they sound amazing. I bit less sparkly treble than my DT990's, better mids and all around richer more complete sound.  Current setup is FLAC(MBP) => Bitfrost Uber => Valhalla => T90.  Stock tubes and cable.  One thing that I miss from the DT990's are the velour pads.  The pads that come stock with the T90 seem to heat my head up after 30 minutes or so.  Although it could be residual heat from the Valhalla "hot plate" amp .  Are the pads replacable?

Thank-you. Indeed they do. I will be taking this system to a meet so others may experience as well. Spousal Unit has book club tonight. I predict a very long listening session with a glass of red befitting of such auditory delights.

Yeah, the pads are replaceable.

Pretty cheap too :) Compared to some of the offerings by Audio-technica and Sennheiser..

Found another amazing partner for the T90's - Woo WA6 with an all Sophia Electric (274B Rectifier + 6SN7 power) set up. Amazing mids, smooth highs ,good , balanced bass & the widest sound stage that I have heard on the T90's.

How do the T90's compare to the T1 in terms of sound stage ? I would assume T90 would be better sound stage-wise, as they are open.

Hmm, soundstage is a hard one. Especially since I no longer have the T90 for a direct comparison with the T1.
Both aren't massive in terms of width. Instruments have a tendency to be quite upfront, rather than coming from the background. I found the T90s extended quite deep though.
Imaging is noticeably better on the T1. Everything is real, you can feel the texture. However, the T90 is just so musical, you really can just enjoy them.
The only real noticeable difference is the mid-range. Treble presentation is quite similar, and bass is lighter on the T1.
Overall, I found the T90 95 percent capable of what the T1's had to offer. Of course, keeping in mind the T1s scale quite a bit more.
