To put it simply, its like watching the same DVD on your Macbook Pro Retina & then watching it on the 50" Sony Bravia LED. :D

I don't think your analogy is very good

The Retina has a higher resolution than the Bravia. But, of course the Bravia is way larger. In terms of colors and picture, I don't know how they compare but I'm sure they're both very good.

So it boils down to what aspects you're trying to analogize: detail (resolution of the tv/headphone), or size (screen size of tv / soundstage of headphone).

Also, why DVD? Blu-ray!

And there's probably a humongous difference in soundstage width/depth and instrument separation.

The T90s defintely have a more wider soundstage and are more open and airy....but they both are great cans.....my favorites for sure..

It was just a general layman analogy without getting too technical (sorry, forgot I was on HeadFi ;)).

What I wanted to convey was If you like DT 1350, you will LOVE T90"s (IMHO).

Hey there. Thinking of picking these up in the very near future. I have a Bottlehead Crack + Speedball on the way, and was planning on getting some HD650's as well, but then I saw the T90's. They look fantastic! I'm coming from an AD700, so I can't really go wrong either way, but I'm not sure which would be best for my interests. I'm concerned that the HD650 may be too dark for my taste.

I listen to mostly neo-80's type electronica music, like Kavinksky and Lazerhawk. Lots of synth, decent bass, but not crazy. Listen to lots of other genres too, but that is the main one. Not a basshead for sure. I'm also a big gamer and play a large variety of games, ranging from FPS to Civ 5 to Dota2, etc. Not too worried about games though as long as the soundstage is decent.

Just wondering if anyone uses the T90's with a Crack, and would happen to have some experience listening to the type of music that I do. Would love to hear your opinions.

Thank you sirs.

I listen to T90's via my Crack/Speed ball every day - fantastic pairing. They both are very resolving, so they'll scale well with DAC upgrades. I don't listen to the same stuff as you, but overall - it seems like you'l enjoy the T90 signature.

Thanks for the reply! Good to hear. Always nice to have someone that already has the gear be able to speak so positively about it.

Cheers.

Ok, took my T90, stock Crack, ODAC, and ultra book with JRiver media player to corporate campus and let folks from the cubicle farm listen. Common among the their collective comments: feels like being in a much bigger space than where we are (soundstage), dead quiet no matter the volume control setting (no hum, hiss, noise), spectacular clarity, impressive bass, very comfortable. All had that same look on their faces upon hearing a really good system. Granted, I was using a JAN Philips 6080wc and RCA clear top 12AU7.

Impulsively bought the T90 from eBay (reputable dealer) open box unused for $445 after tax...

Hope I don't regret this, I had my eyes on the HE-500 for a while. Anyone know any sub $300 amp/dacs that pair well?

I've got a T90 on loan.. running it with the ODAC + Schiit Vali tight now.  I'm extremely impressed w/ the sound.  I'll get it hooked up to the Crack later tonight/tomorrow.. but I will say, I think the T90 pairs better with the Vali than the HD600 does (and I loved how the Vali sounded w/ the HD600).

Under $300, I'm hard pressed to think of anything that would make the T90 sound better than the Vali.  For $120.. I'm certain there isn't anything better.  I've owned plenty of nice amps and phones, btw (Violectric gear, Schiit Uber Bifrost/Modi/Magni, HD600, HD800, DT880/600, T50RP Paradox, HE-500, etc.).. so I tend to know if I'm going to like/not like something pretty quickly... I like the T90 off the Vali.. a lot.  I can't imagine that it won't sound just as good, if not better, off my SB'ed Crack.

So it's Vali and Modi path I go :)

Also, how bad is the ringing on tubes? I have zero experience with them.

Thanks for the impressions. I had the T90 on loan a few months back and I kind of miss it. When I had the Vali I was pretty sure it would sound great with the DT-880 or T90. I actually like the Vali, but not with the HD-650.

I wish the DT-880 was as comfortable as the T90 and had those deeper cups.

T90 is a bit too unforgiving for me

T90 seems to pick apart every single piece of equipment in your setup. Strangely enough it actually sounded good with the Modi, but with the T90 it deserves even better. I can't say that about my Q701 or HD-650.

This seems to be off from the general consensus but the Vali with the modded Q701 seemed pretty dang neutral :confused_face_2: Not sure if the same could be described for it with the T90.

OK, maybe very slightly fuller mids and a tad smoother treble, but ultra subtle.

Re: the HD600 + Vali.. like with most gear in our hobby, there's things I like about the combo.. and things I don't.. there's (almost) always going to be trade offs.  On the whole, I think it's very good.. but the Vali's slightly "shallow stage" doesn't do the HD600 (already) shallow stage any favors.  The T90 is said to possess a pretty deep (and wide) stage.. the Vali's "forward" nature probably ropes in that depth just the right amount, giving a sense of (welcome, in my case) intimacy to the T90's stage.

As far as the T90 being some ruthlessly revealing, unforgiving monster.. I'm simply not getting that sense from it right now... and I'm not listening to any 'exceptionally mixed & mastered' music, atm.  Through the Vali & Crack.. I'd put the T90's 'unforgiveness factor' only a notch or two above the HD600, actually.

Speaking of the T90 + SB'ed Crack.. I'm listening to this combo while I type.. it's spectacular.  Off the Vali, the T90 sounds a bit 'leaner,' but arguably smoother and more neutral.  The T90+ Crack is laid back, comparatively more lush, crisper through the upper mids/treble.. and with a smidgen more midbass emphasis.  Like when I compared the HD600 off the Vali vs Crack, the most significant difference is that the Crack features a markedly larger soundstage.  The Vali's stage is more than serviceable.. but I think the Crack's stage is one of it's unique qualities that make it so 'addictive.'  I suspect the damping factor differences between the Vali (6.5 ohm OI) & SB'ed Crack (~70 ohms) certainly play a role in this.

So, which do I prefer for the T90?  Both.  When I'm craving a vivid, powerful, 'immersive' presentation, I'd tap the T90 into the Crack.  When I want a more smoother, more neutral overall sound, I'd grab the Vali for the T90.
