Yep pretty much that the HD 650 is the complete opposite of the T90. The T90 are detail monsters, so your not hearing "brightness" you are hearing detail. Give them some time and see if you enjoy the sound, I really enjoy them, however like you sometimes the high's can have a bit too much "sparkle" for my tastes aswell.

The HE-500 is the perfect inbetween imo....if only they were comfortable :(

Yes they do get less bright after 150-200 hrs but will still be very bright when compard with the HD 650. If you love the HD650 sound then IMHO you may not like the T90's sound initially. I bought the HD650 blind without a demo, disliked their dark sound (i felt they robbed my music of all its soul), sold them & then looked for a HP which has completely opposite signature.

when I first bought them I used a -5db cut in eq between 8Khz & 12Khz to listen to them. Which has gradually come down to -2db cut as they became less bright. Also IMHO they need a  tube amp to sound their best. I use them with a WA6 , am going to work with blood shot eyes most days cos now I stay awake till late night listening to music :dt880smile:

edit : I notice from your profile that you use Bottlhd Crack, this is reported to have very good synergy with T90's. My advise is allow for 150 hrs or so for  burn in.

Thank you all for your input. Slowly starting to like the SQ of T90. Definitely more detailed than HD 650 for sure.

Hopefully you've kept your 650's, then you'll have headphones for all different genre's of music.

So many people get this wrong. T90's are not bright - they are extremely accurate and very revealing, such that any music with harshness/sibilance in it will be fatiguing. The solution is mild EQ, or a warm/dark amplifier for euphonic listening. Some EQ settings for the T90's to reduce fatigue were posted earlier in the thread. Here they are formatted for EqualizerAPO:

Filter  1: ON  PK       Fc    4800.0 Hz  Gain    3.0 dB  Q  4.00
Filter  2: ON  PK       Fc    6800.0 Hz  Gain   -2.5 dB  Q  4.00
Filter  3: ON  PK    Fc    9500.0 Hz     Gain   -3.5 dB  Q 3.00

Hi! I'm thinking about buying t90 and I have a few questions:
1) Corda 2stepdance will provide enough power for t90?
2) How t90 are compared to he-400 (soundstage and details)

How do the T90s compare to the DT 990 600 Ohms? Are they really worth the extra cash? I love my DT 990s but I'd be a little wary of spending that much money for a pair without a replaceable cable.

Anyone mind responding? I'm a little curious.

DT990 has more bass, more impact. Highs are sharper and more sibilant. Smaller soundstage and imaging isn't as clear and accurate.

T90s are a more refined and smoother dt990sbut can get sibilant depending on recording. if you can put up with the 990s, the t90s are a cake walk.

I don't know if I'd like less bass. I went from the Sennheiser HD 555 and then the 558 to the DT 990 and I was amazed at the improvement in the bass. The soundstage isn't the greatest but I love not having to equalize it. Is the bass as bad as the Sennheisers?

It has plenty of bass, just not as much as the 990s

I have the DT880 600 ohm, love them to death, recabled dual entry, tube amp.........I purchased the T90 about a month back, recabled them dual entry, had to EQ the treble at 7100 and 9000.....I wanted to try the DT990 600ohm just to listen and probably resell them, I also did an 8 wire recable....now I like the DT990 600 ohm better than the T90.....I love spacious open soundstage, and the DT990 hit what I like.  To me the T90 can sound congested, beautiful mids and highs, but lack some low end even with a wonderful recable.  It came down to the DT990 vs the T90....I could not give up the DT990, and traded the T90.  The DT990 just fit more of the music I like, folk, jazz, classical, acoustic.  The T90 excelled at rock music, but I felt they sounded less natural. more artificial in spacial cues(something weird about them), than either the DT880 and DT990.  This is my impression through my gears (sig), I would find it very hard to do away with either the DT880, DT990, or my Sennheiser HD580....but take into account I have 6 modular, high quality cables that are swappable between all of my headphones.  I can't say that one of the six satisfies me on all of my headphones.....I prefer different cables on my headphones, and genre can also make a difference as to which I like at the time..  I am very lucky to have many choices of cable material, modded to fit all of my headphones.  It is almost like having multiples of each headphone!

I have to agree that the DT 990 fits my music the best. Can you post some pictures of your cable mods?

I have the Quickstep, though haven't tried it with the T90's. Will try them together & let you know in a couple of days.

Edit:

tried it, Dosen't work, sounds too bright, not enough bass & if you turn the volume up too much the sound starts to tear.

How does the T90 compare with the DT-1350 ? Despite the fact its/open closed, is the bass more or less the same ? The 1350 surprised me a lot - I got it for on the go and i'm looking for a nice open headphone at home. Currently I have a HD650, but the 1350 is a bit more lively and hope the T90 is too.

Source is currently a iBasso DX100/HDP-R10, which will be supplemented by a headphone amp later (Next step after the T90 ;) ).

It's been a while since I've listened to the 1350s (Wife's pair) but I would say that the bass impact is about par overall bass, the T90s are warmer. There's more mid warmth in the mid-bass on the T90s. The highs on the T90s are definitely lively. More so than the 1350s. I'd say a bit sharper in the highs.
