Beyerdynamic T90 :D - Page 67

Been listening to my Q701's and the T90s....the T90's articulate so much better, tonality quality is better, the sounstage is very 3D dimensional like...simply amazing.

I listened to them at my local shop and my mind was blown away.
I love these cans, they are just amazing in every aspect when I was listening to unplugged Clapton.
Since I dont have any amp or DAC I would like to know, what you guys think which option would match best.

1) Fiio E09k + E07k
2) 02/ODAC
3) Essence STX

As far as I understood, the Fiio and Asus are very similar and really decent in their price range, but the amp isn't the best.
The 02/ODAC are pure neutral and performs better then the other two.
Since I will be only using the T90, which fit them the best?

This is a good question.  Do you think that there is an argument to start a separate thread with amp recommendations for the T90?  If so, any ideas for structure, contributions etc?

This thread isn't that busy, so I would just post it here.

Fair enough and agreed that traffic is not that busy.

My argument for such a thread is that rather than reading through an entire thread relating to various T90 issues there would be just one port of call for the person looking for the right amp.  We are up to 67 pages and almost 1,000 posts.  After all, it is a common question.

The first post could include a list of amps people are using with the T90 and a summary of sonic characteristics of the pairing based on impressions posted in the thread cross referenced to the posting/s that described it in detail.  Think of it as an index of accumulated knowledge and experience to make the search for an amp easier.

Feel free to make one by all means.  I do think more people would probably see it if you posted in a thread like this one, where people are already subscribed and there's more traffic.

True! Oh well, will shelve that thought

I think you have to be careful with these headphones and what you pair them with. I can try them on my stx if anyone wants to know how they sound compared to a higher end set up like an mdac + amp combo.

they can sound amazing if paired correctly, but very average from say a an ipod + fiio E7

for the record they sound brilliant out of the mdac itself......you could get the mdac/qdac + t90's and call it a day imo.

Yeah that would be sweet :)
Currently looking for a portable amp/dac that would go with T90

Just have been recommended the Meier Audio PCStep as a good amp that synergizes well with the T90
Any confirmers?

The O2/ODAC combination with the T90's are absolutely amazing sonically.

You may not like the way the O2 is put together as far as aesthetics etc...

And its not as small as other portable amps are.

Some amps have a time with higher impeadance cans like the T90s at 250 ohms.

The O2 does'nt have an issue driving the T90s to ear splitting levels.

I have used other amps but always come back to the O2/ODAC combination.

I quite agree - pairing is critical. As good as these sound with O2/ODAC (I have them too), an amp made to drive higher impedance cans really wakes them up. Driving them with a Torpedo or Crack or WA6 will take you to audio nirvana. These are great phones with huge potential.

Lots of people really like the Crack..and for its price its a great buy...

I have the O2/ODAC and the Crack. I agree with adydula, the O2/ODAC provides amazing transparency for not much money. I have to plug into the Violectric V800/V200 to achieve better. The Crack gives an extraordinary euphonic presentation, also for not much money, if you are a DIYer. If not, the Woo WA3 is a very similar alternative though it has 6DJ8 driver tubes instead of 12AU7. Having experienced both transparent and euphonic, I would not be without either.

The O2 has more than enough power to have hearing damage done with the T90's if your not careful.

The amp is designed to work with cans from 16 to 600 Ohm impedance. The T90s' are 250 ohm.

In the many tests at 150 & 600 Ohms the output voltage was essentially the same at about 7.3 volts RMS.

The design goal and output is 7 Volts RMS & 200+ mA peak current.

Some of the other amps that work well with higher impeadance cans dont work that well with lower impeadance cans.

So this is something to think about.

If you buy an awesome crack, and later get low impedance cans you will have issues.

Same with Cmoy's etc..

This is why the O2 is such a gem to me...it works so very well over a wide range of headphones....

But there are those 600 ohm cans that will have issues with the O2 as well...but they are far and few in between.

The sound is what matters to most of us so it may really mean enough for someone to have a $300+ amp just for these cans....

The Violectics are great, costly and really dont sound very much different from the O2 IMO.

But they are built like the proverbial "shXi house!" and will last forever.

After all its your money!!!

What a hobby!

THAT is good to hear!

Let me Ask you guys? I'm planning on balancing my entire home rig [and my portable as I have a Pb1 [for the power mostly]

Would it be better to grab the LD MK VI+ or the MK VIII SE? I hear the SE is better for Higher Impedance cans on the MK VI+ but I also hear neither of them will do squat with something as hungry as an HE 6

So... how well would the 250 ohm T90 fair out of a balanced Tube? [It would b getting a good bit of volts]

In addition, any suggestions on a Balanced Portable Amp? anything will do so long as it can have a 4pin XLR Adapter made for use with it [I might just break down and get the Pb2 Leave it on High Gain and get over the lack of easy gain swaps, stick the HiFlight kit in it and move on with life] but any suggestion on the tube?
