Woohoo! break out the credit card!

Ok, I returned my T90s because I secretly want a T1, or a T5p.  Not sure yet, but my wallet doesn't want to know about it.  confused_face_2.gif

The imaging and level of detail with the T90s are amazing, and MUCH better than my DT990s even though they were the next best I had.  I also compared them to my Sony MDR-EX1000, and instantly felt they were in another league.  My problem was.. the sound wasn't smooth enough for me.  I definitely think a good tube amp is a solution, but I don't have a good enough tube amp (DV 336SE) to get the same level of detail and articulation as with my solid state amp.

Tube amp + T90 = smily_headphones1.gif ... WA22 + T90 was nothing short of amazing, equally so was the LCD-2's, but that's a whole different story...

I'm actually considering changing T1 for a T90 (or HD700). Call me crazy... :P

I find the Woo Audio WA7 to pair very well with the T90. They to create a sonic atmosphere that is most enjoyable. The on-board DAC is pretty decent. I do find a Violectric V800 DAC to bring a bit more clarity and sense of space to the system. Here are some reviews by Frank Iacone (also on this forum in other threads):

I audtioned a set of T5p today and had a chance to buy them (used, store demo with warranty) for 960, but decided it wasn't worth the extra money compared to the T90.

The T5p is very different from the T90.  It's smooth and not edgy.  The vocals are nicer and more coherent, but the soundstage also appears somewhat  smaller.  In a sense, the smaller soundstage made it seem as though the level of detail in the T5p was no better than the T90 (from memory).

The level of performance between the two are really quite close, but the T5p is considerably warmer, smoother, and more musical in my opinnion.  I think the T90 is a great headphone if paired with a good tube amp.

That sounds like my w1000x, and the T90 sounds like mah Dt 990 xD, speaking of which... OH MAI GAWD, classical is so EPIC on the Dt 990... I listened to it with my w1000x and it was super LAME. The w1000x is closed and sounded that way... it totally ruined the just EPIC ness of classical. That being said, rock is still better on Closed Cans, Vocal Jazz wins on the w1000x, and classical Jazz is nice on both of them honestly...

BUT CLASSICAL, DE FREAKING MANDS, the Dt 990s Big sound Stage, excellent dynamics and airy feel!

Point being, I want a T90 even more

I just ordered a pair of T90s from razordog, be here next wed.....I was so enamored with the DT1350 I wanted a set of cans that have that type of sound signature and they recommended DT990 or T90....

Here we go again!

A.

NOTE: Will compare to LCD2's, AKG 702, Q701, Grado 325is, DT1350, ATH M50.

It's close to both 880s and 990s. It has more highs & lows than the 880s but less of both than the 990s. Clarity, imaging & soundstage is vastly improved. Mids I haven't quite placed yet. It feels slightly recessed when compared to the 880s but not like the way 990s are. Pretty close to 50hrs burnt in and the treble has smoothed out a lot. Not as sibilant as from open box. The HDTracks Sampler sounds amazing from the T90s. I almost couldn't tell the difference when I had them running from the 880s. Whole new level with the T90s. Just give in. very_evil_smiley.gif

I proably will buy the T90s after I get my Dt 880 250's back. As that's exactly what I want, something in the middle of the Dt 880 and Dt 990, and btw the Dt 990 mids are very enjoyable! I love the delicate warmth and push of Cellos and Violins with the Dt 990, the w1000x doesn't always balance the details and delicacy of Classical Duets as well as teh Dt 990s do, now for BIGGER more orchestral sounds, the W1000x wins hands down, but for those initimate classical Duets the 990s are amazing. I can't wait to hear the T90 as it adresses all the wants I had from the 880 990 combo <3 plus I'd still have mah 880's for portable then I'd have my home T90s ^^

Not to mention the T90s looks awesome!

Thanks for the impressions so far :3 I'm really, really curious.

Would you say so far that it is any less or more fatiguing than the DT880?

Hey there Kaworu Nagisa!

Oh I am a massive fan of Shin Seiki Evangelion. But that's not the point of my post.

When I had the T90, I felt they were a step down from the DT990. They were harsh, thin, and bass light. The treble was really annoying and really strident. The mids were more sucked out than the DT990 and the bass seemed to roll of early. The soundstage, detail, and imaging was much better of course, but the tone of the headphone ruined it for me.
