Zombie, Nice picture of your beyers.
You wrote the T90 is the first beyer headphones which you don't like,
Luckily I yet have any beyer that I don't like. here's mine.

Hi,
So am I. It's an awesome headphone. The DT990 is one of the best headphones under $400 IMO. Nothing is really better except for say the DT880.
It's really too bad that beyer fumbled on this one. The T90, well, sucks IMO. It's nothing like the DT990 except for it having a crap ton of treble and thin mids. The soundstage is kinda weird, the treble is so sibilant and peaky, the sound has a "zing" to it. I could go on and complain more but I think I've made my point.

Hi Zombie,
I feel puzzled because I completely have different impressions about T90 and T70.
In my enviro and with my rigs T90s are bassier than T70.
I suppose your very high-end setup brings out T70's potential.
IMO the T90 is very good headphone with airy, wide-open soundstage and with lot of detail.
I hope further burn-in time would reverse your initial impression.
Cheers.
Ditto. I don't have a T70 but I did auditioned them and I like my T90 better, I also prefer my T90 over my DT880. It's kind of a surprise to me that you hate the T90, Zombie_X.
Maybe the T90 does not pair well with the amp? Or need more burn-in time as beyerlove mentioned?
I completely agree with Zombie_X that the DT990 is one of the best headphone under $400 range and I really love mine (I have 2 pair of DT990PRO, one is recabled with Silver Dragon).
But I feel bit unfair to compare T90 and DT990. IMO these phones are different birds, different headphones. T90 is not direct successor of DT990 series but completely new product under different concept.
For your information,
My T90 sounded pretty odd and unfocused right out of the box.
They needed 1 week or so to settle down.
Cheers.
Anything can be compared. Would you suggest only compare a T90 with another T90? At the end of the day all you're comparing is the sound that "any" headphone is producing. The common factor is "headphones". Which one you like better is up to you. Which means you have just did a comparison.

Reasonable, but not my point at all. comparison is always welcome.
I wanted to say that I felt bit unfairness there.
From the number 90, and from the same open back construction,
Everyone seems to think that T90 is straight successor of DT990.
(this also happened between T70 and DT770.)
Please don't get me wrong that I'm saying that Zombie_X's opinion is biased.
No problem If he compares those headphones as different, individual product of their own,
I don't have nothing complain about and will respect his opinion as is.
Cheers.
okay, I really have to learn the terms to describe sounds
But I am hearing opposite of what Zombie_x is hearing. I had T70 for short time but really liking the T90 more, more bass for sure
Aw shucks - this is going to get interesting.
Could the amps be playing a part in this?
Very positive.
I'm interested in Zombie's amp (Violectric V200?) a lot because that amp seems to derive considerable amount of bass from his T70s.
Hi,
I've amped the T70 on V200, Auditor, X-CANV8P, and FiiO E9. On all those amps it had more has than what the T90 has. The T90 has a bit less than DT880 levels of bass. It's not a bad headphone, but for the money I think it's too expensive. I feel it should be much less.
The T90 only sounded warmer on the V200 but the bass barely changed. I've been amping exclusively on the Auditor and they have a bit more bass, but not a lot. From all my amps the T90 sounded thin with not much body. It sounds thin like the SRH-240 to me (but the T90 is obviously much better).
It could be mine is the odd pair out there but it wouldn't be something I'd consider buying.
Also I think comparing to the DT990 is valid as it's the mosot similar to the T90 of the other beyers, and well, it doesn't stack up. The DT990 curb stomps the T90 in every way possible, except resolving capability, in which the T90 is better.
My experience is that you give the T70's a good amount of ss juice and the bass starts opening up. Little Dot 1+ = bad (little bass). Fiio e10 = Decent bass. Rotel stereo amp = a little bit more, but i don't really like its headphone circuit. better bass, but it lost its tightness. Also heard them on a Beyer At1 clone, and they sounded really damn good. Great bass response.
I also found changing the pads (tried gel and some pleather pads on them) got a better response cause they actually sealed okay with them. Not sure how this goes for everyone, but the velour is kinda firm (still comfy, of course, but firm) and for me didn't create a good seal, resulting in the bass just leaking away.
Zombie,
Thanks for info about those amps.
Apart from T90, I'm seriously interested in V200 and considering it for my next amp purchase.
I admit T90 has all the tendency you listed above. but I still enjoy T90 very much. and I don't want to repeat about personal preference ;)
Your impression will be very useful information for many Head-Fier.
Cheers.

Hey,
I'm currently using EDT770S pleather pads for my T70 and this actually improved bass response.
I really like the sound of my T70 too, but I feel I have to try better amp after hearing Zombies impression.
Cheers.
Glad to finally see someone backing up what I've felt a bit lonely saying in one or two places. :)
The T70 feels like a good pair of headphones to me (not the most experienced head-fier though), just from everything I've heard they are very sensitive to the right amp and having a good seal to sound good. They seem to fall off rather severely if everything isn't right for them.
