Edit:

Confirmed on the smoother sounding. Was listening to Nightwish - Last of the Wilds, the DT880 sounds much more piercing. Tbh I'm shocked about this, I thought I've used to DT880's treble.

Did you guys try changing pads?

Haven't done so yet though it does crossed my mind. Will probably try it later.

How's the T90 so far?  I'm trying to get a pair.

So far very nice, wide sound-stage, open and airy, bright sounding headphones. If you are looking for highly detailed, flat sounding headphones for pops and rocks demanding not overly bassy sound, IMO beyerdynamic T90 is excellent choice.

Cheers.

Is it better than the T70?  Is it anywhere near the T1?

I have T70 and T5p but T1. It's safe to say most people would think T90 is better sounding headphones than T70 because of its sufficient amount of bass. And all Tesla around-ears phones have a common signature of quick response, sparkling highs.

Really? Last I heard, the T90 had a huge treble spike like most all the other Beyers.

You're right. T90s have a peak around 6-10kHz range and it would be perceived as a treble spike for some.

but overall T90s would fall into flat sounding category compared to more treble-strong T70s.

Hey,

I just got the T90's in today and they don't sound too good IMO. They are much brighter sounding than the T70's I own. They are also more recessed in the midrange and the bass is very light. My T70 is bassier and smoother sounding than the T90. They are also very sibilant. They sound quite harsh with not much body. The bass is there but is lacking depth and punch, but is nicely detailed. I found they aren't really more detailed at all, but are much brighter. I've never heard a beyer that I disliked, but this one is the first.

As for it compares to the T1, well, there is no comparison. The T1 is far superior in every way. The T90 sounds like a tin can to me, well perhaps not that bad, but worse than the DT880. That's bad as the T90 is almost $700, but sounds like a $200 headphone. A used DT990 PRO ($150) beats out the T90. The DT990 is bright and a little sibilant, but the T90 is even brighter and has this "zing" tone to the sound. The sound itself is somewhat distant and hollow.

Granted these are initial impressions but IMO both the DT990 and DT880 sound better.

Very interesting. Should I not get the T90? I'm not a fan of the T70 so you are saying the T90 is not better. What should I get next? Is the T5 worth checking out? Any other you recommend?

Hi Zombie,

I feel puzzled because I completely have different impressions about T90 and T70.

In my enviro and with my rigs T90s are bassier than T70.

I suppose your very high-end setup brings out T70's potential.

IMO the T90 is very good headphone with airy, wide-open soundstage and with lot of detail.

I hope further burn-in time would reverse your initial impression.

Cheers.

Hi,

I'd recommend the T5p. It sound similar to the T1 but closed and with more bass.

Oh and here's a group photo of the Tesla models, with a special guest, the COP.

Hi,

I've been doing listening for a few hours and my initial impressions have not changed at all. It sounds bright, distant, and not focused. The sound stage is wide but not good. I still think the DT990 is the better headphone.
