Right now the T90s the ones I'm listening to.. The HE-500's are staying in the gorgeous Slieveking Omega HP stand down below (in the livingroom..) And right now I`m listening to something I usually use 770's or the he-500s for.. BM! Sons Of Northern Darkness, (If u are a true metalhead you know this album) so loud my ears almost bleed!   \m/  Didn't know the t90's had this in them!   I struggle to find my favourite between the he 500 and the t90. They both shine in different applications. Perhaps the He-500 scale better with improvements in the amp-departement (just a guess since that is my next step).. but seriously, if I had to let one of them go, I would struggle. No doubt the T90's are tuned (perhaps) a tad Euro and the 500's perhaps tuned "a tad for overseas".. but, both are seriously  kickass in my very humble opinion..

To put it in a perspective, both are -miles- ahead of the 770s in every possible way. (and I still really like the 770's.. They are excellent to have as backup when the kids just cant shut the "#¤"# up ;-)  (which is quite often when I think about it)....

Interesting so , T-90 is not bad with BM ^^ , well i loved T1 with Bm any way redface.gif , HE-500 and T-90 are quite different and should complement each other well .

PS : Battles In North is better tongue.gif (it was my main purpose biggrin.gif) .

I finally got to hear the t90's yesterday, and god are they beautiful phones. Actually, I think beyerdynamic have the coolest modern looks for a headphone; one of my favorite designs. However, beyerdynamics are also one of the brands I absolutely can't bare with in terms of sound (besides the T1). The recessed mids are simply not for me. The t90 are beautiful, but to me the sound is not natural and too bright. I'm sure many people would love them though.

I think beyerdynamic makes good studio phones, that's a fact. And I'm sure metal heads, edm fans love beyerdynamic. But that's only a very minor portion of my listening material.

Did you ever get the cans, do the comparison, post your impressions?

for the price, I hated the T1.. was TIZZY.. my DT250 doesn't have this kind of harshness.

Anyway.. right now, my koss ESP-950 is the best for me while missing some thumps/dynamics in the low end.. and soundstage is a little weird...

my next bet is the new mad dog T50rp mod.. will see how this goes..

with very good heapdhones... having the best dac is primordial..

I wonder where i'll go on this part.. I liked the bifrost while a little too boring for me, flat and clean highend but missing some of the life/mid detail/dynamics that my CS4398 dac was giving me. I might go for the new schiit dac with flagship AKM or ...

While we are waiting, this is an interesting read: http://www.hardwarezone.com.sg/review-beyerdynamic-t90-open-back-headphones-finely-balanced-quality

Their summarized conclusion:

Quote:
The performance track record for the T90 is almost faultless and for the price it commands, it had to be. Overall characteristics of the headphones can be classified as being balanced and vibrant. All the different bands of frequencies from the spectrum of sound are beautifully rendered and the sum of their impact is relayed with great fidelity. We were wowed by the way the product delivered warm yet bright highs on Adele’s Melt My Heart To Stone. Attention to detail and good transient response, along with an excellent soundstage, made us feel like we were sitting in the hall for live Hotel California track. Had the T90 delivered just the slightest smidgen of extra bass impact, it might just have walked away with the perfect audio performance score.

That last sentence concerns me just a tad, as while I don't consider myself a basshead, the DT990s are my current favorite, and I do like my bass to have authority. I'm still leaning to T90s over something like the HE-500 as a successor to my DT990s (until I can justify T1s, I guess).

Hey,

But this tells us nothing about the bass. Is it a lot? Is it a little? I'm leanign towards more than DT880 bass but less than DT990. Maybe T1-esque bass. Who knows. Also we don't know what this reviewer likes, and what I mean is do they like bass heavy or bass light? Everyone can classify sound differently.

Anyways I'll have my COP and D5000 video up this evening for everyone to enjoy.

I'm still waiting on comparisons. Are the T90 as bassy as the DT990? That is the ONLY thing I care about knowing right now. The rest will come later.

Envy,

T90s are not bassy headphones In every meaning. It is true that they have more bass than T70s, but they are basically "flat" or "slightly v-shape" sounding headphones.

If you purchase T90 expecting DT990's bass, you'll be disappointed very much. T90s are great, but not bassy headphones.

Ah ok, thanks a lot. I can skip them them. That makes them sound like they're more comparable to the HE400s, which have great bass, but aren't BASSY in the same way the 990s are. I prefer some tilt towards bass, and if I didn't, I would have just stayed with the HE400.

So what would you describe as an evolution of the DT 990? (It does not have to be Beyer).

I'd say from description, that it's an evolution of the DT880s. Even the semi-open nature of the grills looks evolved from the 880s.
