Beyerdynamic T90 :D - Page 18

Yo,

 

I have the 250Ohm T70 in hand now and find it superior to the DT770. I jsut find it's not worth nearly double the price. I find they are good around $300, but not the $600 MSRP. The T70 I have has more bass than the 600Ohm DT770 I used to have. They are more detailed and resolving. They also have smoother treble than the DT770. More mids to boot as well, but still neutral.

 

I find all the DT770 Premium models to have similar levels of bass and the 600Ohm model has the most.

Considering the inconsistency Beyerdynamics has with their DT770s and MMX300s (some bass heavy, some basslight, even at the same ohm), I wouldn't pay much attention to those graphs.

The DT770/600ohm I had sounded like it had even more bass than any of those three on that graph. Really obnoxiously powerful bass. This is coming from a mild basshead.

Looks like the T90 is in stock in several places now.  No one has taken the plunge and bought the T90 yet?!?!  Do I have to do everything? 

 

Seriously though...anyone have any more impressions, no matter how brief?

I took the chance. T 90s have been playing non stop for some days now. They are beautiful! Really <3   Have just started listening to them properly (for a couple hrs)  today. -Really- like what I hear so far :) Sound very open and airy, but with nice low end.  So far so good. Gonna keep them playing for a couple more days to get properly burned in.

Also gotta give you props for using XBMC. I have that installed myself and it's really awesome.

Here is my brief comparison to the T1:

 

Treble: Compared to the T1, the T90 has a bit more treble emphasis. The treble still feels very smooth, though.

 

Mids: Mids are slightly recessed in comparison to T1. 

 

Bass: Bass feels very similar in quantity. Maybe a slight edge to the T90 in mid-bass (but very slight, if at all.  Still need more time on this).  I hear a little more texture in the T1 bass.

 

Comfort: Both are extremely comfortable.  Obviously, T1 has more weight.  Cups are deeper on T1.  T1 clamps harder. But I found when switching between them, whichever pair of phones I put on last was the most comfortable.

 

Build quality: Excellent for both, but T1 is in another league. It is built like a tank.   I would say the T90 is comparable in build to the DT990/880 (which is to say...very nice). 

 

Looks: Both are very attractive headphones.  But, to me, the look of the T90 is really something special.  It is gorgeous! 

 

My opinion:

Overall, I was expecting the T90 to sound more different from the T1 than it actually does.  It is hard to imagine that the MSRP of the T1 is twice that of the T90. That said, the T1 does sound like the better phone to me.  It just sounds a little more neutral and natural.  I think part of the explanation goes to the T1s angled drivers creating a better sense of depth.  But again....the differences between them are more subtle than I would have guessed.

 

Currently, I am faced with a tough decision.  I have 3 days to return the T1s back to Amazon for a full refund. If I paid the full $1399 MSRP, I would no doubt be returning the T1s and keeping the T90s. But I got the T1s when they briefly dropped to $968.  With that smaller price difference, the choice is much harder.

 

How about the T70 Vs. T90 - anybody?

 

The T1 I won't be able to compare with, but the 770 comparison I will try to do.. I just need more time switching between them (right now I play mostly with the t-90s.. yesterday I was surprised I actually enjoyed Slayer and Taake with the T90s real loud (actually not so loud also). That was not the kind of music I expected would work well with those cans.. nb, only tried quick run through of Reign in blood and Noregs Vaapen. perhaps I was lucky on those two recordings?) I have to admit most of the sunday was spent listening to sacds and hi-res downloads of "more hifi correct" music :D.  (but I was really glad to note that they performed well also in my favorite genre.. REAL hard, heavy, dark "R&R!"..)

 

In regard to the difference between DT-770 and T 90 i would definatelly expect the difference to be quite big, because they are designed very differently. But so far they are different where I (hoped)expected them to be different :D

 

Bear in mind my "miles" with Beyerdynamic is few so this is all new to me (Hi-Fi is not, though)  I'll try to give my 2 cent regarding the differences in a couple of days.

(btw: Love XBMC! only thing I would wish better are stability when not using a TV / monitor.. More info and fun through android pad/phone plz. Not so easy to navigate/enjoy when the TV is not switched on! ) ;-)

I have a T90 coming later this month, so I can do a T1 vs T5p vs T70 vs T90 vs DT1350 comparison. Sounds good, no?

 

 

 

WOW - That will be a very long comparison.  What's your method - A/Bing or listen to one for a while then the next?
