I used to only find what I was looking for in Grados - namely the SR325 - but Beyerdynamic has changed this since they started with the Tesla drivers.

How do your Beyers compare to your SR325?

By being bright, light and airy sounding only. The Grados have a much smaller soundstage though - despite that the T70p are closed and Grados open. The SR325i have impactful bass and treble focused. The Beyers have a peak at around 8000 Hz and the Grados a peak at 9000Hz.

So if the T90 share the same highs and resolution as the T70s it will make me happy and probably a future owner.

Hmm... I'm getting a Pro 2900 vibe from the T90.

Hi!

After listening to my T5p for 5 hours+ yesterday and listening to the T70p again today, I won't be changing headphones anytime soon. =)

The T70p has really good layering though, some of the sounds are quite precise and atmospheric, it's more 'open' sounding than the T5p, but really lacking energy somehow, a little too airy?  Not sure.  The T70 feels more 'normal', closer sounding to the DT990 I think.

So not T90 related, but Beyerdynamic is also sending me a T70, T70p, and T5p to demo. I should expect the T70 here is a week or so. Then I can do proper comparisons to the T1!

Should be fun, no?

Absolutely!  Though, I am a bit jealous.wink.gif  Looking forward to your comparisons.

At the NYC meet a week ago I got a chance to hear T90 thru 3 different setups and compare to my stock D7000. First setup had Audiolab 8200 cd player as source with 2pcs Woo Audio amp and there I clearly preferred T90 over D7000. Next setup used  Ipad as source sending signal to unknown to me DAC which had two outputs and had O2 and CTH connected to it at the same time allowing two people to hear same track thru pair of headphones connected to each amp. Thru those combos it's very difficult to choose which headphones you like more cause some tracks i preferred with T90 and some with D7000. The difference was more refined clarity and details. I heard T1 thru first setup and compared to D7000 and clearly preferred T1 but don't think i will ever pay twice more money for T1. But i didn't try to compare T1 vs T90 since Beyer's rep said that T90 are step up from Dt990 which are too bright for me while T90 had no such problem and sounded very natural and clear.

The comparison to the DT990 is literally the opposite opinion of the other impressions we've seen in this thread.  Super.

And last I checked the D7000 and T1 were comparatively priced. ($1k MSRP vs $1.3k MSRP - not exactly double.)

It is double, because the D7000 was found for sometimes under $600 for a long time. I got both my D7000s for $590-595 respectively. You can't find the HD800 anywhere near that price range.

I think the T90 would be the better value. I've talked to a few beyer reps about the T90 and they told me it was an evolution of the DT990. They didn't dive into the sound characteristics other than it being more natural and balanced. I wouldn't mind a smoother T90, but the lack of bass in the initial impressions worries me somewhat. I want that signature DT990 bass but tighter and more controlled.

I found the D7000 to be too expensive and sounds mediocre at full price. That being said I would pay $400 for a new D7000 is the opportunity arose. I really do like the D7000 but at those prices I'd be better off buying a 1350 and T70.
