The ATH-CKM500..The best CKM earphone yet. - Page 65

I had the CKM55 and I can tell you right now those don't come anywhere close to the complete sound of the CKM500. I don't know if it was because it was your first iem but believe it or not the CKM55 was the single worst iem out of all the previous CKM earphones. Even the older CKM50 was better than those..You are in for a nice surprise..Considering these are an improvement over the CKM77 and the CKM99.

You can only imagine just how much of an upgrade in overall sound quality you are getting over what you had before. Believe me there is no comparison between the older CKM55 vs these CKM500. As for your music what you will hear is clarity and detail with your depth of music. The lack of any detailed highs on the CKM55 was a killer for me. Lower mids were muffled on those with the bloaty bass those were the only CKM iem I returned. I couldn't believe how lacking those were. Nice choice on the upgrade you will hear proper now. I look forward to your take on these. All 4 of them vids sound nice. I especially enjoyed Hendrix the best out of the 4..Been a while for me to hear some Eddie Money.

so now I'm using the stock tips for the first time, lol. (I tried on the comply tips at first.) the sound is much clearer with the original tips. the complys made the bass sound bloated and congested to me.. just overpowered. it's a shame, because the complys are much more comfortable than the stock tips.

alright, will order some sony hybrids insssttteead.

Well, I just ordered an assortment of Meelec tips. We will see how it goes. I've looked and looked in local stores for Sony hybrid tips and have come up empty. I'm really interested in trying these with a bi-flange.

Glad to hear that your enjoying them. Though I will have to thank another headfier that tipped me off to these. It helps that he lives in Japan. Thanks to Mr. JCJiffy. He wasn't kidding when he flagged me down on the CKM50 thread to tell me about these CKM500 earphones. It was because of him I heard these. I would have bought them regardless but it was because of him I am enjoying these..

My two cents about the CKM55: it is a good in-ear for its price. I don't think it's worse than CKM50 at all, I think it's a huge improvement over those. IMHO! But like Dsnuts said, the CKM500 has a much clearer sound, more detail and refined treble. I thought it was lacking at first, because I had an EX500 and the treble of the EX500 is just out of this world, crazy, great for live music. But after some hours of burn-in, the treble became refined and great on my CKM500. It's definitely worth buying and you will see improvement over CKM55. A lot. CKM500 are to be compared to CKM77/CKM99, not CKM55 at all actually. They're that good.

Finally got CKM500 on my hand yesterday... this phone doesn't have the usual AT "sin" of unnaturally thin treble... (some may like that smooth hair splitting treble, but to me, there is no such cymbal sounding like that)... So, one good point for me that CKM500 tuning is willing to escape from that signature... which I don't like...

secondly, the bass is actually a bit too strong to my liking.. and on some material has tendency to color the mid. I tested equalized down the bass and the clarity improve quite a bit (because the mid is not colored anymore...)

third, IMHO, equalized down a bit on the bass, this CKM500 would be good enough for stage monitor... it compete with GR07 (based on very short listening though)...

forth, the clarity is there, but it is still sound like a dynamic phone in general... still would not be mistaken for BA..

in all... it is a very good value product... will continue the burn in a long this week....

Thanks for the beautiful recommendation David (Dsnuts)... Now... I'm looking forward on the FXD80/70 impressions... whether it would be worth the price difference to FXC80...

So this thread has convinced me I'd enjoy a pair of these very much. I'm just wondering now where to get them from.

cdJapan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/search3.html?r=ALL&q=ckm500&media=NONE&cur=0) seems like a good place with lots of shipping options, I think a few people have bought them from here, any comments about them? Another seller is buyfromjapan on ebay (http://www.ebay.ie/sch/i.html?_nkw=ATH-CKM500&LH_AvailTo=99&_arm=1&_armm=63&_ruu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.ie%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_nkw%3DATH-CKM500%26_arr%3D1&_rdc=1) who seems legitimate. There isn't much in the price, one thing is if it's shipped from the ebay guy it goes by SAL which can take ages if you get unlucky, I think. Speaking of shipping, if anyone has bought from either of those sellers, are the packages marked with a price/product, as a gift or valued accurately? I'm thinking about customs duty. Or are there other genuine sellers I could buy from?

I'm also thinking of getting the iPhone version (I assume it'll work with other smartphones), am I right in thinking this model has a single cable rather than the 2 foot cable with extension?

Audio-Technica
Dedicated digital wireless headphones ATH-DWL3300

I found this online looking for some reviews of JVCs. What is interesting is the earphones this unit comes with. Could this be the CKM700??

My god! Dsnuts, guys... they arrived! These little things are on my ears right now. I'm listening to some hard rock songs of my library and I'm very happy. It's sooo much better than my ECCI PR401, there's no comparasion. Like you guys said, the CKM55 can't compare to these, too. Can't.

They don't had time to burn-in and is already sounding good to my ears. Seems like I make a good purchase.

You guys enjoy your new earphones.. They only get better with more use/ burn in.  Keep us updated on them..

Even though I have a new contender in the JVC FXD80. I keep on reaching for my white CKM500. They never fail to throw a smile on my face.

Dsnuts, the treble is a little harsh for you when you received them?

Like my other headphones, I always have the sensation that the treble is too harsh on first listen. Normally, it's just a question of time and burn-in...

They can be a bit sharp on open box. I think it is a part of the sound design as the treble smooths out over time.  My pair with over 300 hours the highs are perfection. It just don't get much better. I would commence burn in. Throw them on a source and let em rip. Listening in between is always a must of course.

That and compared to the almost recessed highs on the CKM55 which you are used to ya these will have much more cleaner detailed presence in the upper registers. So yes you can recognize the superior sound but it is one you will have to get used to. But believe me once you do get used to the clarity and detail and then go back to the CKM55. You read my not so flattering response to why I had to get rid of the CKM55 and you will understand completely.

Heck coming from the CKM55. Your library should sound completely different. Clean rich and with full on details you was missing from getting used to the CKM55..Once you get used to this more higher end and complete sound I can guarantee you will smile and just how great everything sounds using these. Keep at it. It gets better I am certain you will find these awesome for you music.
