For the ASG2 I've paired it with numerous sources such as DX50, X5, Cowon J3, iPhone 6+ and very soon DX90.
As for DX50 in particular, it is quite a good match. Actually ASG2 does have very good synergy with most sources. But through HO of DX50 and running SU1.3.3, it offers a more detailed listening experience. Bass does not overwhelm or bleed into any other frequencies. Mid bass is substantially reduced. But that is on the bass ports near closed. However I do find DX50 HO has a slight noise level. Background isn't as clean. But once matched with an amp such as E11K, it brings the attention to a whole new level. Much more refined sound and way way darker and black background which I enjoyed a lot. X5 on the other hand, offered a more neutral sound opposed to DX50. Bass impact and slam is still present. Vocals ain't as upfront compared to DX50 due to its portrayal of a wider soundstage. Coherence and dynamics wise I still prefer to use them with DX50+E11K. Nonetheless, X5 proves to be a good match with ASG2 as well.

I see that you have the DX90? It should be a pretty fantastic match as well. From my audition, DX90 has got better dynamics and coherence with a faster and deeper bass punch which can bring out the sleeping sub bass monster in ASG2. But soundstage wise, X5 is larger with a wider imaging than DX90. DX90 is more upfront in your face kind of sound. I'll chime in more when I test the DX90 with ASG2 tonight! smily_headphones1.gif

Thanks for the insight.

My DX90 is used with Fidue A83 atm, I'm trying to decide which I prefer, Alien or the iBasso.

While I can easily switch DX90 over to ASG-2 my OCD will kick in about separating my dap/iem combos, and we can't have possible hospitalization.

I'm hoping just to plant DX50 headphone out on ASG-2, knock her up to medium gain with silver cable and ride off into the sunset.

As a fail-safe solution, I'll strap Tralucent Dac/Amp One to DX50 line out.

Let me know your thoughts with DX90 though.

Haha you mean you leave your IEM plugged into the player even whilst not in use?

I had a listen with ASG2 paired with DX90. The sound is nothing short of impeccable. Definitely much cleaner compared to HO of DX50. Matching with DX90 resulted in greater clarity and separation which is a huge plus for the DX90! Something that I always thought the ASG2 sounded "lost" or congested when instruments kick in all at once for example rock genre. Vocals are still being presented as lush and intimate. The magic being retained here. However it isn't as "in your face" anymore compared with both DX50+E11k and X5. Bass response and transcient is a little different here. Wouldn't consider it as bass light as you can easily turn up the ports on ASG2. But retaining the near to close ports, mid bass is substantially reduced. Running out from X5 or DX50+E11k, the mid bass slam is more prominent. But I supoosed DX90 does have a better sub bass response and attack as when I'm using it with my se846, the sub bass was brought out even more apparent than X5.
Soundstaging wise, the DX90 cannot be considered as having a wide presentation but more to average size about similar to DX50. X5 does have a wider presentation.

Overall my preferred source with ASG2 is the DX90 now! Do give it a try with your DX90! smily_headphones1.gif

Haha, no, I have this crazy theory that 'one' DAP must stay with 'one' IEM,  Not plugged in full-time, just designated to remain with that earphone as a pairing. It's one really absurd and quite irregular practice I've picked up.  But if DX90 performs best with ASG-2, then of course it will be used. I would have had them today but the package is needed to cross literally one side of Australia to another, you couldn't get any farther away from each edge of the country. While we're pushing the limits of Australia Post express platinum service its requiring more than overnight delivery.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

Haha I thought you have them with you cause of the pics posted earlier on. Look forward to your impressions and source matching too!

Well, the ASG-2 ended up arriving that same day. There's a little problem with them we've discovered which I'm having sorted out but they're totally usable and absolutely loving them from DX50. BIG detail, BIG bass, BIG happiness.

Was an excellent decision and I feel like a little school kid again. :beerchug:

Great! smily_headphones1.gif Remember you have the same sorta impressions when you had them earlier on too. The little problem doesn't affect the sound i suppose?

The ASG2 seems to have very good synergy with most players! smily_headphones1.gif

Nah, they sound fine, better than I remember actually, still have that streak of hooligan in them Gintaras used to mention. I just love the heft in detail right across the mid range, solid, thick. Go with the bass and accept it as the signature, creates good atmosphere.

I'm still waiting for the pure silver cable which is heading back, so running some Rhapsodio crystal copper cable. The FIdue A83 will have their work cut out for them keeping up.

Yup! The silver cable will definitely push the ASG2 to another level. ASG2 is the IEM which I've been keeping for so long. Tempted to try the A83 too. But worried about its fit.

Would you mind posting some comparisons between ASG2 and A83? smily_headphones1.gif

Without giving too much away, and letting the ASG-2 settle in I think we're throwing rather opposite signatures around, two IEM that could probably compliment each other rather than compete. An upside of A83 is its more balanced, sounds cleaner, brighter but it really exhibits that true TWKF sound (you would have heard this in H-300), Dunu DN-1000, 2000 they all have that tendency to lean thin, transparent, airy.

The ASG is much thicker, bigger boned and weighty right across the lows and mids, it's a big boy, natural and ain't afraid to tell you about that fulltime. What mostly effects my perception is, the ASG has a much bigger headstage kind of dwarfs the A83, everything is much larger in size, from the vocal image to instruments. This along with the thick detail is causing a stir.

That's all for now. wink.gif

Anybody here has got a comparison between the ASG2 and SD2? smily_headphones1.gif
