It works though it does pop up a warning message about stability if you turn it on. Curious.

I wish though you didn't have to select the CUE file and instead it just showed the tracks.

ALSO track numbers are not being displayed (yet they are in the same order) - this is a bug.

This really sounds much better than it should.

My line out cable arrived today.

I wish there was a choice of lengths.

Sounds very very good via O2, will try with Voyager later

Different, not better than HO, but still very likeable and musical.

Can a £100 amp improve on 901 and Mini Box?

This needs some serious listening.

I understand the LO signal doesn't pass thru the amp board and you can dismount the amp board to conserve battery life.

thanks,

anyone else had success with other amps?

Is Ksen releasing discrete card again? Who ordered one??

all very quiet on the 901 front. I guess everyone is enjoying 1.8.5 too much to post!

1. Hifiman HM-901 (+Balanced Amp Card)

2. Audeze LCD-3s

3. Centrance M8 LX

4. Norse Audio Reign 24 (maybe)

5. 4pin XLR to trrs adaptor

Is there anything I need to add to this list or will this be enough for all the parts to connect.

Also, does anyone have any tips on headphone cables. I'm saving, so I might as well pay top dollar, I want the bar-none cable. I'm thinking mainly copper since I like a warm, clear feel and that matches the LCD's and HM-901's supposed warmth and clarity.

If you want copper, try Toxic Cables Black Widow - excellent copper cable. :L3000:

I will always recommend Double Helix Cables. I own a Fusion Silver/Copper cable but Peter also build pure Copper cables and he can make a cable exactly as you wish.

Highly recommend Norne Audio for LCD cables.  They have wood splitter that matches the LCD2/3 wood trims and are extremely well made and sound as good, if not better than more expensive cables I had before.

Finally got around to trying my Denon D2000s (stock) with the 901/Minibox

FANTASTIC!! I should have gone to bed 2 hours ago but can't stop listening.

Anyone tried the 5000/7000?

I have heard both the Denon D2000 and D5000.

They both have a very good frequency response and they are both very comfortable, but in terms of sound quality they have soft, muddy bass and foggy mids compared to orthodynamics like HE-400, LCD-2 and last but not least HE-6.

I tried the D5000 and LCD-2 side-by-side and the Audeze won hands down over the Denon i terms of SQ. It was really a big difference and immediately audible.

Forgive this outbreak of desired simplexity. I know we are 185 pages into this thread; I have read all of the attached posts. I have a few taxingly simple questions to ask but I politely request helpful or otherwise asides to be held for another day.

I am interested in buying the HM 901. I have read extensively of its perceived superiority to all but silly expensive DAPs out there. I appreciate its onboard storage is limited and its battery life compromised and its size...er...somewhat substantial in the pocket. PDAP is actually a more accurate description of my desired consumerism ie a portable digital audio player that works as an...er...portable digital audio player, playing high res (predom 24bit / 96 jazz, classical, acoustic tracks) better than most of the market.

I want to know if it works as a superior source of excellent high res music for ear and headphones of reasonably average sensitivity. Via ear/headphones; not as a source for car or home or office hifi...or attached to an additional amp or dac, or circuit board; portable or not or just as a dac? (ie AS INTENDED)

Secondly, can I trust the current operating system to work AS INTENDED? ( - No programming or coding or design skills to be necessary; I'm planning to buy a full price model not a discounted development / work in progress item.

Neither do I want my investment in an HM901 to require rewiring, recabling, rebooting or re-designing anywhere between DAP and headfi listening device(s).

I'd also really appreciate informed comment from EXPERIENCED USERS on  comparisons between the HM901 and the iBasso DX100 or HDP R10 in terms of my intended use as described above. FYI, I have removed the fiio x5 and ibasso dx90 from my consideration.

I'm hoping that answers to these questions are possible. And that the specific nature of my questions causes no offence. (I am not really interested in stimulating answers to questions I am not asking!)

Lastly, I appreciate that I am asking for informed opinions and not factual assertions.
