1000 bucks without amp section? yeah this is ridiculous and yes im going for the dx100 when i get the money which is about 2 weeks from now...

That's not what Fang has said. He said whether the price of HM901 will rise after the first 2~3 batch has yet to be seen. He also said they had considered making a blank amp card for driving high impedance headphone since the DAC out has plenty of voltage, but low impedance headphone will suffer - he didn't said he is going to release HM901 that way.

From the way he responded to people, I think raising the price is definitely on his mind. If he raise the price now, 901 is going to fail because he has already received lots of money from customers (including me), plus this endless waiting. The bottom line is, it's really not acceptable that he releases a DAP that can't be played without extra purchases.  A standard amp card has to be included at least. The way he compared 901+different amp cards to Camera+ different kind of lens doesn't make sense to me.  I hope the price doesn't change.

If 901 is a good product, people will buy it. His concern about people trolling 901 isn't necessary at all.

I don't see anywhere in that thread that he has confirmed that he will not include an amp card (he is merely taking about an thought he used to have), so I don't think we need to assume that for now. I do remember the preorder include a standard amp module though, IIRC. I don't think whether the HM901 with standard amp card will increase in price is an issue for now, as he does promise the original price will be maintained for all those who have pre-ordered, and maybe a batch or two after. I do however agree that his concern about trolling is a bit overboard.

in the big bad audiophile world, $1500 for a digital player is just peanuts, probably too cheap to be taken seriously.

the price is fine if it holds its own up against my Linn Ikemi CD player, 

but if it sounds like a 90s Nad or Arcam, then it will be laughed out of shops.

So at this price it had better sound good! and if it does then good luck to Fang,

I once nearly spent £12k on a CD player, so £1200 is just entry level, he is entering a whole new ball game now

Is there a pre-order exercise going on for the HM-901?

Agree on the 12k cd [player front. However for a portable audio device a 1k price tag is steep. Who knows maybe the SQ is on par with a Naim CD player or netwrok player if that is the case the 1 k price tag is cheap.

i wonder when there will be reviews from reviewers that im familiar with for hm901, im especially curious how it stacks up next to the ibasso dx100. money came faster than i thought, i can already pull the trigger on dx100 now if i want to but im scared that after buying, i will hear that hm901 outperforms dx100 in sound quality... 

pulled the trigger on the dx100, now the long waitttttttt... have to remind myself, patience is the virtue!!!
