I have the HM901 since it was released and the firmware is getting better with each generation. You should really update it.

If you order HM-901 with a specific amp card, that's what you get. No extra amp card included. That's my experience and it also makes the buy cheaper.

Frankly, I think it's a good idea that we don't have to pay for an amp card we don't want or need.

Thanks for the explanation, LarsHP!

Check the "dynamic range" of your records. It sounds to me like a dynamic compression issue. Compressed records sounds flat on the HM901 but this is a record release issue, not a player issue.

You don't need to press and hold the HOME button for so long. The following is copied from the instruction (remarks are from my experiences):

1. While pressing the HOME button, hold the Power key up until the HM-901 is power on. After the screen is on (remark: when you see anything shows up on the screen) , release the power key. Then release the HOME button until the hifiman logo disappears. Now (remark: you can let go off the HOME button) the player will be in recovery mode.
3. Wait until the first picture shows on the screen. The system will be updated automatically.
4. After the update is done (remark: the player will power off automatically, well at least the screen becomes blank. You can power it up now, then) power off the player (remark: this time it's you who power it off) and then reboot it (remark: means to power it on) to finish the whole process.

Thanks. This worked.

Also an update about my previous posts about a lot of stuttering on my HM-901. HiFiman customer service said they wanted to replace it (before I even asked for replacement, good service). I just received the replacement and it plays perfectly without any stuttering on flac files up to 24/96.

couple of months and take very good care of it. The wheel is seemingly not very robust.

Big wheel, keep on turning
Proud Mary, keep on burning
Rolling, rolling, rolling on the river.
