Excited to hear the difference of a hi end balanced cable compared to the standard Sennheiser cable.

How does the HM-901 compare to the Tera Player?

And when will it be on sale again?

I think that the HM901 is a more versatile player than the Tera. If you want to compare SQ you should consider the Tera only plays wav files and it's output is intended for iems. Meanwhile the HM901 plays most audio formats and has swappable amp section (in general has a more powerful output) that can run full size cans. I haven't hear a Tera but think of it like the "nano" version of a high end portable player.

Tera has advantages (size, battery life, easiness of use, stability, signature sound) but 901 is indeed more versatile. The output is actually intended for portable headphones such as the Porta Pro, and it works also with iems, but ONLY high impedance iems and certain dynamics / hybrids. Otherwise capacitators in the output stage causes MASSIVE bass roll off with most low impedance BA.

Just wanna add that 901 has the best line out for being a DAP.

Thanks for the correction. I thought that the Tera was designed for iems and the lower impedance the better.  Could you give me some examples of what should be call a "high impedance iem"?

Just obtained one of those powerful DIY amp boards from ksen. :D  Will see how good it actually is

I have only the Spiral Ear SE5 that I have tried (135 ohms) but iems such as the Tsar 350 should work too...

Tera's sound is unique.In a different class .
I am very surprised even now after months how good it sounds with Korta.

Every comment about Tera's SQ is positive. That's why I'm sure is a great player. But what we miss here, to put it in perspective, is the impressions of somebody who has listened both (Tera & HM901) in A/B comparison using the same headphones (compatibles with the Tera) and using the IEM card in the HM901. Anyone?

It's a 901 thread and you make it sound like it's in a different class than a 901 when you just asked about the comparison a few posts back. Things don't get better sounding than a 901, especially with the right amp card. Just different. It's just a bit large for some. It also plays at 24 bit res which the Tera does not.

Probably not lower than 32. 50ish or more would be better. Spiralear se5, Heir Tzar 90 etc. Here's a review vs the HM-801. http://www.headfonia.com/altmann-micro-machines-tera-player-review/2/ he calls it about a draw but it sounds like his personal preference is the Tera. 901>801 but these things also get into personal preference.

Right...then let's start complaining shall we?
AK120 doesn't play DSD natively but people like it.
Tera doesn't play true 24 bit files but has got one of the most natural sounds and a long battery life.Tera is unique and will not be one similar built.
HM-901 may be better and soon will be replaced.
Not to mention about the buggy GUI heat etc.
If you haven't heard Tera be my guest.
To each its own.
