Well it certainly could be for someone looking to have an all-in-one unit like Fiio does, or desires wifi streaming to a different system, like the living room or bedside for example :)

Back with with my stuttering HM-901. I think I may have determined what triggers it (note that this is not the occasional 2-3 second stutter that may happen when skipping songs). Here is what I think is happening - if anyone has the time to see if you can replicate it would be very helpful. I think it needs FW fix.

First, what I am using: a 128 GB SD card in exFAT with all flac files: I would say 20% 16/44, 70% 24/88,96 and rest 24/192,176

There are two types of stuttering. Major and Minor both when in mode play all song with shuffle on.

1-  If I do a "rest settings" and start "play all songs", then turn shuffle mode on it generally plays fine with occasional stuttering when starting a new song. I will call this minor stuttering that should be fixed.
2- While still in "play all songs" AND "shuffle on" I turn the player off.
3- I turn the player on at a later time. Shuffle is still on.
4- MAJOR stuttering that does not stop after a second or two. Reason seems to be because it was turned on with shuffle mode on.
5- If I do "rest setting", start play all songs with shuffle off, then turn shuffle on player is generally ok, with occasional short stutters.

So it seems player has major problems if it is turned off while in shuffle mode and then when turned back on and shuffle mode is still on playback will have extreme stuttering.

If you just turn off shuffle mode, do you hear this? I don't.

The ibasso DX100 seems to have stollen the spot light. Fang needs to whip the fire up with updates on the HM901.

Volume Knob Question: Even though the scale is labeled with dashes that would correspond to 3, 3.2, 3.4, 3.6, 3.8, 4, etc, the only clicks are at every other mark so 3, 3.4, 3.8, etc.

Is this normal?

You mean because there are five dx100 for sale on the fs thread and not a single 901 or because the 901 sounds better?
